If all goes according to plan and Winnipeg Jets' general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff remains rather dormant through the remainder of the offseason - with the exception, of course, of providing the club with his annual signing of a veteran depth forward or two just days before training camp - then Tuesday's announcement from the Jets' content team very well could be the biggest move the team has made all summer.
True North Sports + Entertainment has added TSN rinkside and sideline reporter, and host of Jets on TSN, Sara Orlesky to the team, to which she will serve as Senior Host and Producer beginning in the 2022-23 season.
Her deal is of the one-way variety, while terms of the contract could not be confirmed on CapFriendly.
"Hey Jets fans, having covered this team since Day 1, I know just how passionate all of you are about this club," Orlesky shared. "I am really looking forward jumping on board as senior host and producer to help bring new, fresh, content across all of the platforms, as well as the notable news and those behind the scenes moments. I am looking forward to getting started; see you all in the fall."
A born and bred Winnipegger, Orlesky, 42, graduated from Shaftesbury High School and has since gone on to be the lead sideline reporter for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on TSN, as well as the rinkside reporter and host of Jets on TSN in the TSN3 regional broadcasts since Winnipeg's return to the NHL in 2011.
Orlesky will join regular Game On Magazine contributors Paul Edmonds, Mitchell Clinton and Jamie Thomas while providing up-to-date news on Jets players, coaches and management, while continuing to report all stories on the Jets' social media channels, on top of her duties with the Jets on TSN.
“Sara has been a fan-favourite in sports broadcasting and we are thrilled to add her talents to the Jets content team,” said Kelly Shouldice, Vice President, Content & Communications. “In this role, Sara will spearhead new in-depth, multi-platform Jets content, bringing fans closer to the team, players and coaches.”
Over her career, Orlesky has covered a number of major, recurring sporting events, including the Stanley Cup Final, the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, the Olympic Winter Games and the CFL's Grey Cup.
Should Cheveldayoff remain standing pat, this acquisition from within very well could be the biggest personnel move that the Jets have made all summer - with all due respect to in the incoming Rick Bowness and staff.
