Jets load up on defence with miller trade
The Winnipeg Jets and New Jersey Devils have teamed up for a second trade in one day.
After Winnipeg acquired forward Tyler Toffoli for two draft picks, the Jets turned right back around and picked up defenceman Colin Miller for another selection. This time, the return was a 2026 fourth round pick.
“He has a lot of playoff experience," general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said of Miller. "Certainly, when I talked to him several minutes ago, we talked about that. He has a good shot, he moves really well, he’s got that experience, he’s got that pedigree. So those are all things. I think Bones had some people in Dallas that he knew, he talked to them about their experiences with him. And even more importantly, both guys are great people. That’s a big check mark for us as well.”
For Rick Bowness, the idea of bringing in quality individuals trumps that of quality hockey players. Having both attributes is just a bonus... for Bowness.
"Again, I hear nothing but great things about his character," Bowness said of Miller. "We are bringing in good players and just as important, we are bringing in good people.”
Miller, who has bounced between a few different clubs over the past number of years, was dealt to New Jersey prior to puck drop on the 2023-24 season. He has four goals and eight points to go alongside 24 penalty minutes in 41 games for the Devils this season.
Miller and Toffoli are expected to join the Jets on Monday in Winnipeg when they host Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals from Canada Life Centre.
