GAME ON's First weekly roundup of manitoba's ToP leagues for 2026-27

Are you ready for the 2026-27 hockey season yet?

Based on the team tryout schedules, the number of rookies looking to grab available spots and the fact the Manitoba Junior Hockey League gets into its pre-season schedule, there are a lot of young people thinking about it.

This season, Game On will provide a weekly update of Manitoba’s six elite hockey leagues. Here is our first installment:

The Manitoba hockey calendar remains in off-season mode, so there were no games, standings movement or weekly player awards in the six priority leagues. The useful developments involve MJHL transactions and preparations for September camps.

MJHL

• No games or standings movement. Exhibition play begins August 31; the regular season opens September 18.
• Hayden Wheddon’s Niverville Nighthawks CCM helmet is currently featured in a display case at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. The Nighthawks made history last season (2025-26) by capturing their first MJHL Turnbull Cup and first Centennial Cup as National Junior A Champions.
• Three transactions landed during the reporting window:

MMJHL

Karsten Woloshen, River East Royal Knights, 2026 MMJHL Rookie of the Year

CRJHL

• No games, standings movement or new player announcements during the seven-day window.
• The next and last ID skate before North Winnipeg Satelites main camp is taking place Aug 26, at 7:45 p.m. at Gateway Community Centre.
• The Capital Region Junior Hockey League has officially released its schedule for the 2026–27 regular season. Returning with a 30-game slate. The regular season starts on September 25, 2026, and runs through February 14, 2027.
• The major preseason storyline remains the arrival of the Altona Maroons as the league’s eighth franchise. The CRJHL released its 2026–27 schedule on August 12.
• Potential Story: Building the Maroons after the expansion successes of the Beausejour Comets and the 2026 champion LaBroquerie Habs.

KJHL

• No games or standings movement, and no reliable new league announcement was located for August 17–23.
• The official site continues to solicit new organizations and communities. OCN Storm remains identified as the 2025–26 champion.
• Potential story: Can the Storm repeat as provincial Junior B champions?

• Registration is open, with initial tryouts scheduled for September 12–15 at hockey for all centre. The league reports that all goaltending positions are already filled and is recruiting volunteers and female coaches.
• Potential story: Women moving from playing into coaching as the league actively seeks female bench staff.

MFHL U18 AAA

Emilie Carriere, Eastman Selects, 2026 MFHL U18 AAA Rookie of the Year

• No games, or standings movement
• Winnipeg Avros star Cali Lavallee has committed to NCAA D-1 Sacred Heart University for the 2027-28 season. She will play with OHA Elite U22 this season.
• Potential story: Players participating in Hockey Manitoba’s U18 Program of Excellence.
