Fans of the Winnipeg Jets will be excited to know that postseason celebrations are once again in store for the downtown area of Manitoba's capital city.
On Friday, Economic Development Winnipeg and True North Sports + Entertainment hosted a media conference, introducing plans for the return of the Whiteout Street Parties, as the Jets open the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs with a matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights.
The outdoor parties of 2018 and 2019 will return this April, with a new look, including that of the use of the brand-new True North Square as a focal gathering point for fans.
“As the home of unforgettable playoff street parties, we know how to do this right, and we’re excited to have an opportunity to recapture the spirit and energy of 2018 and 2019, as we come together in celebration of our Winnipeg Jets and showcase our city to the world,” said Dayna Spiring, President & CEO, EDW. “Don your jersey and get your game face on -- the Winnipeg Whiteout Street Parties are back, and they’re going to be better than ever before.”
With gates opening four hours prior to puck drop at the new Party in the Plaza (True North Square) and two hours before the game on Donald Street, Jets fans will have the chance to congregate with fellow enthusiasts, purchase food from fully-licensed street vendors and sip on a cold one, or two, as their beloved hockey club faces its biggest test of the 2022-23 season, thus far.
Games 3 (April 22) and 4 (April 24) of the first round will be played in Winnipeg, with start times of 3:00 PM and 8:30 PM, so fans will certainly get the best of both worlds, in terms of an afternoon weekend game, as well as a late-night week day contest.
This year, 5,000 ticketed fans will be granted entrance to the Donald Street roadway spanning from Portage Avenue to Graham Avenue, while another 1,000 fans will congregate at True North Square outdoors for the opportunity to watch the game on large screens at the newly established location just outside Canada Life Centre. Fans attending the Party in the Plaza will also have access to Hargrave Street Market, indoors.
Tickets for both areas go on sale on Monday April 17 at 10:00 AM central time via Ticketmaster. Admission prices have risen to $10 for the Whiteout Street Party and $20 for the Party in the Plaza. $5 from each Street Party ticket will be donated to United Way for work with the homeless population in the city.
“This is our team, our legacy and our chance to show the world once again what it means to be a Winnipegger. Our city is full of devoted fans with heart who know how to show up. We cannot wait to see the street adjacent to Canada Life Centre filled,” said Kevin Donnelly, Senior Vice President, Venues and Entertainment, TNSE.
