Visiting Jets take it to host Canucks
On Saturday night, the Winnipeg Jets went to battle with the NHL's very best - the Vancouver Canucks - and came out on top.
Despite falling behind early in the second period, the visitors bounced back with a 4-2 win, thanks in large part to an exceptional performance from their newly recreated top line of Mark Scheifele and wingers Gabe Vilardi and Kyle Connor.
The trio combined for nine points.
Scheifele led the way with a goal and three assists. Vilardi scored twice and added one helper, while Connor picked up two primary assists in the Jets' third-straight win.
The other Connor - goaltender Hellebuyck - earned his 26th victory of the season, helping the Jets improve their record to 33-14-5 for 71 points, while maintaining their place in an extremely tight Central Division battle.
In addition to Winnipeg's top line dominance, two other storylines unfolded on Saturday from Rogers Arena.
1.) The game-changing check from captain Adam Lowry that led to 17 minutes in penalties being handed to Vancouver's Phillip Di Giuseppe.
2.) The Jets' resurgent power play, which scored twice - including the first goal by Sean Monahan in Winnipeg blue.
Next up for the Jets is a stop in Calgary on Monday for another Pacific Division test with the Flames. That game will take place in the afternoon on the holiday Monday. Puck drop is set for 3:00 PM central time. The game will be available to watch on TSN.
