Jets to Take on Senators Sans Scheifele
The Winnipeg Jets will once again be down an important offensive weapon when they hit the ice at Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, Ontario on Saturday afternoon.
Facing the Ottawa Senators in their lone matchup in Ontario this year, Winnipeg will be doing so without the injured Mark Scheifele.
He will miss his third-straight game after leaving in the second period against Chicago following a strange, non-contact play that left the team's top centreman grimacing.
Having missed both the Philadelphia and New York contests this past week, Scheifele was expected to suit up on Saturday, but according to Jets' bench boss Rick Bowness, his timetable has been extended.
“We will re-evaluate on Monday," Bowness said on Friday. "He’s making progress, it’s going on a little bit longer than we originally thought so that’s fine, that’s all part of it, so we’ll see where’s he’s at on Monday.”
Having just received Kyle Connor back to the fold following a lower-body injury of his own, the Jets have had it rough injury-wise this year. Already losing Gabe Vilardi for 18 games and Connor for another 16, the team has been without Rasmus Kupari for a lengthy stretch, as well as youngsters David Gustafsson and Ville Heinola.
Saturday's game is an early 2:00 PM central start time, and can be viewed live on Sportsnet.
