Jets Trade Draft Pick to Vegas for Cody Eakin

According to TSN, the Winnipeg Jets have traded a conditional fourth round draft pick to the Vegas Golden Knights in order to acquire Winnipegger Cody Eakin. He's an inexpensive depth player who can fill in for the Jets three major injuries up front to Bryan Little, Adam Lowry and Mathieu Perreault. Eakin, who will be 29 in May, had four goals and 10 points in 41 games for the Knights this season. Last year, he had 22 goals and 41 points in 78 games in Las Vegas. Eakin is a 6-foot, 190-pound centre who grew up playing in the Winnipeg Monarchs organization. In one year with the Provincial Triple A Winnipeg Wild, Eakin had 29 goals and 64 points in 34 games. He went off and played in the Western Hockey League with Swift Current and was selected in the third round, 85th overall, by the Washington Capitals in 2009. He's played for Washinghton, Dallas and Vegas in nine years of pro hockey. For Eakin, Vegas will get a conditional fourth-round pick in 2021. It is believed that the fourth-rounder will become a third-rounder if Winnipeg either makes the playoffs or re-signs Eakin. Eakin will become an unconditional free agent on July 1. He is in the final year of a three-year deal that pays him $3.85 million this season. His remaining cap hit is $910,753.
