If all goes well, the Manitoba Moose will have some reinforcements on forward very soon.
Not that the 10-5-2-1 Moose are in a position to complain, as they are currently sitting three points back of the second-place Texas Stars with a whopping four games in hand, some depth can always serve as a helping hand.
On Tuesday afternoon, Manitoba's parent club, the Winnipeg Jets made the announcement that forward Dominic Toninato had been placed on Waivers for the purpose of being sent down to the minors. Having sat out the majority of the season, the 28-year-old has been a press box regular under new head coach Rick Bowness.
Skating in four games for Winnipeg, he has one assist, one penalty, is a plus-one, and has five shots on goal while averaging just over seven minutes a night. This has been a step back from 2021-22, to which he skated in 77 games and put up seven goals, 14 points and 22 penalty minutes.
He initially did not crack the Jets team out of training camp and spent the first portion of the year in the American League with the Moose. He suited up in one game where he put up two shots on goal.
This move by Winnipeg comes as defenceman Logan Stanley continues to rehab his way back to the Jets following a broken foot suffered in early-November. With call-ups Jansen Harkins and Mikey Eyssimont, as well as Wavier claim Axel Jonsson-Fjallby having cemented their place within the bottom-six, Toninato has been chosen as the odd man out, and has been exposed to the Waiver wire.
Should Toninato pass through unclaimed, he would be able to report to the Moose on Wednesday. If he is claimed, he would travel to his new club as early as tomorrow afternoon. Winnipeg hosts Paul Maurice and the Florida Panthers on Tuesday from Canada Life Centre.
