Jets Destroy Avalanche, pull into second-place
The Winnipeg Jets have just completed an extremely successful season-ending road trip.
Coming off a stretch of six-straight losses, the Jets completely righted the ship and have now won six in a row. Yes, a complete flip of the script, and it couldn't have come at a better time, as the Stanley Cup Playoffs roll around.
With just two games left on the 2023-24 regular season schedule, the Jets returned home from Colorado this weekend after putting up 10 goals and picking up back-to-back shutouts in their two games against the Stars (3-0) and Avalanche (7-0).
Laurent Brossoit and Connor Hellebuyck worked in tandem to shut out the two divisional clubs, in what actually was a four-game stretch against teams from the Central. Beginning in Minnesota, before moving through Nashville to Texas and then up to Colorado, the Jets played four dominant games and have positioned themselves in a perfect place entering their final miniature homestand of the season.
The Jets now sit at 50-24-6 on the year, which is good for 106 points. They are just one point ahead of Colorado, but the Avalanche have played 81/82 games, while Winnipeg still has two contests remaining.
In order to secure home-ice advantage in the first round of the postseason, Winnipeg will need to finish with the same number of points as the Avalanche or more (as they own the first tiebreaker). The best Colorado can do is finish with 107 points. So, the Jets need to just earn one single point over their next two outings to secure home postseason dates to open the 2024 playoffs.
Next up for the Jets are the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night, before the Vancouver Canucks roll into town for an all-Canadian matchup to end the season at Canada Life Centre. Both games feature 7:00 PM central start times and can be viewed live on TSN.
