Leafs Break out in third, beat jets 4-2 on saturday
RECAP:
The Toronto Maple Leafs were the better team on Saturday night. They started the game well - gave up a quick goal, albeit, but fought back and finished the game strong, taking care of business for the second-straight game against the Winnipeg Jets, earning four the five awarded points in the two-game extended home-and-home series.
Winnipegger Ryan Reaves scores for the Leafs, before John Tavares broke a 10-game goalless drought on a third period power play marker. Auston Matthews put the finishing touches on the game with his 40th goal of the season and career point No. 600, becoming the fastest player in Maple Leafs history to do so.
Winnipeg got the game opener from Dylan Samberg, but did little after. Samberg's first of the year was actually his first goal since January of last year, more than a full calendar year ago.
Mason Appleton jammed one home with just a handful of seconds left on the clock, but it made no difference, as the Jets fell 4-2 to the better team on Saturday. And as the players and coach said postgame, a little break will certainly be helpful at this given time.

QUOTABLE:
Dylan Samberg on his first goal in 77 games:
“Yeah. Good to score but still lost. That part sucks, but obviously good to get a goal. That was good.”
Adam Lowry on the team needing a bit of a break:
"You know what? I think the best thing is a little mental reset. I think this is kind of one of the first blocks of adversity we've faced this year. Certainly you can let some frustration creep in. I think being able to get away from the game, analyze where we're at, where we've been, what we've been doing well in some of these games, and what we can improve upon, then come back energized again. I think that's the great thing that this break comes at this time. I think we all know over the last couple weeks that we can play better."
WHAT’S NEXT:
The Winnipeg Jets now enter the All-Star break and hope for some rest and recovery. The team is off until February 6, where it faces the Pittsburgh Penguins in Pennsylvania.
