Jets get strong showing from skinner in debut
The Winnipeg Jets beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 in their first home pre-season game of the exhibition season.
Newcomer Stuart Skinner was the star, as he shut down the Avs' travel team by way of 30 saves on 31 shots faced. Jets fans quickly bought into his trademarked 'Stu' chant followed each save, to which he rightfully acknowledged the Winnipeg faithful post-game.
Veterans Gabe Vilardi, Cole Perfetti and Dylan DeMelo got the goals for the Jets, who will be right back at it on Tuesday evening, as the Edmonton Oilers make their way to Canada Life Centre for Winnipeg's final home pre-season test.
The Jets will then travel to Colorado to close out exhibition play on Friday, before opening up the regular season on Friday, October 2 as they host the Boston Bruins in downtown Winnipeg.

“Yeah, we didn't have it the other night in Edmonton, but then we had it tonight. We've been trying to figure this out for a few years on goalie interference and the red light came on right away in the sense of from Matty (Prefontaine) and from Flats (Wade Flaherty), it was pretty quick. So we were pretty sure. We were having some internet issues and I wasn't sure if we were noticing a part of what the review was, but at the end of the day, we were pretty sure that was the call it was pretty clear cut for us.”
Stuart Skinner on his reception:
“Honestly, just the love from the fans, especially at the beginning there before the anthem, that felt fantastic. The “Stu” chants around a couple saves, those always feel really good. You can tell how much the fans love it here, how much they love their hockey, how much they love their players. So, it was a lot of fun, it was great to put on the jersey, it was great to go out on the ice with all these guys in here. All in all, I just had a blast, I think we all had a lot of fun tonight; I was happy with it.”

The Jets take on the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night, also hosted at Canada Life Centre. They conclude the pre-season on Friday and open the regular season on October 2 when Winnipeg hosts the Boston Bruins.
