Jets prevail, take 3-2 series lead over st. louis
RECAP:
The Winnipeg Jets put together another strong home effort on Wednesday night, beating the St. Louis Blues 5-3 and taking a 3-2 series lead to Missouri for Friday's Game 6.
Coming back home to Canada Life Centre with the best-of-seven knotted at two games a piece, the Jets were looking for some retribution following back-to-back blowout losses on the road.
They scored early and often, with Kyle Connor getting thing going just over a minute into Wednesday's affair.
Winnipeg had three different leads in the game, but only pulled ahead by two goals with 1:09 left in the second period. Again, it was Connor, who picked up his second assist of the night on a three-on-one rush up-ice, to which he got the puck to Vlad Namestnikov. Elevated into the first line centre role, he put it past Jordan Binnington, for what eventually worked out to be the game-winner.
Namestnikov was in that spot thanks to a dirty hit from Blues' captain Brayden Schenn, who jumped a foot in the air before coming in direct contact with Mark Scheifele's head. The Jets' top centre finished the first period, but did not return to the ice for the second and third.
Nino Niederreiter, Dylan DeMelo and Adam Lowry got the other goals for Winnipeg, while Connor Hellebuyck made 16 saves on the 19 pucks sent his way. Game 6 will go from Enterprise Arena on Friday night at 7:00 PM central time.

QUOTEABLE:
Blues head coach Jim Montgomery on Mark Scheifele's injury:
"And let’s make it clear: 55 got hurt from the Faksa hit. He played six minutes after the Schenn hit. He didn’t come back after he got rocked by Faksa."
Jets head coach Scott Arniel on Blues head coach Jim Montgomery's comments:
"Well, I didn't know Monty got his medical degree, trying to say how our player got hurt. He's way off base. He should not make that comment. There's some things that have been going on in this series and that was a repeat of what we've seen before. A player leaving his feet and then hitting a player in a very unprotected spot. Hitting him in the sense of almost blindsiding him. I'm not happy with how the call was made. A two minute minor. Not even looking at it is what I was upset about. And it is something that we have talked to the league about for five games."
WHAT’S NEXT:
Game 6 will go on Friday night from Enterprise Center in Missouri. That game will get underway promptly at 7:00 PM central time. It can be viewed live on Sportsnet and CBC.
