Gabe Vilardi records four points in 5-2 win over kings
The Winnipeg Jets battled back for a 5-2 win over Los Angeles on Wednesday night, putting an exclamation mark on a road trip that also saw wins in Colorado and Anaheim.
Leading the charge was former Kings forward Gabe Vilardi.
After falling behind 2-0 through 20 minutes of play, the Jets relied on their top line of Mark Scheifele, Nikolaj Ehlers and Vilardi for all of the scoring.
Putting up five quick goals, the Jets rallied in the second and third periods, as Connor Hellebuyck slammed the door on everything else that came his way.
Vilardi picked up helpers on two second period goals by Ehlers, before setting up Scheifele for a goalmouth tap-in to take the lead with five minutes remaining in the middle stanza.
Then, just 2:30 into the final frame, the first-year Jets forward roofed a backhander past Cam Talbot, essentially putting the game out of reach for the home team. After 420 games with Los Angeles, it took just 10 with Winnipeg for the 24-year-old to set a new single-game career-high in points.
Scheifele added an empty netter with just one second left on the clock, as the Jets sealed the deal on rather successful California road trip and now return home for four-straight leading into the Christmas break.
The first test is against the Central Division leading Colorado Avalanche, who sit one win above Winnipeg in what has become a rather tight race. Then it is three-straight Original Six matchups with the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins each making their way to Canada Life Centre over the next week.
