The Winnipeg jets have lost gabe vilardi yet again
On Friday, Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness made the announcement that the team would be without forward Gabriel Vilardi for foreseeable future.
No, he did not have a setback in his recovery from a mystery upper-body injury, but rather while doctors were performing an evaluation and assessment of his recovery, they discovered something new.
And it wasn't pleasant.
Vilardi has an enlarged spleen. No, it's not ruptured, but it will take a number of weeks to heal. Usually a result of mononucleosis, a viral infection, a serious flu, or - in some cases - blood born illnesses, an enlarged spleen has various estimates in recovery times.
Having already missed two sizeable chunks of the season, the Jets' key piece in the offseason trade with Los Angeles that sent Pierre-Luc Dubois to California, Vilardi will be shelved once again - just as he was about to resume skating from his most recent setback.
Bowness called the news unfortunate, but it is a part of professional sports, and life - at that.
The pre-deadline additions of Sean Monahan and Tyler Toffoli are now of even more importance and relevance, as Vilardi's top-line minutes will once again need to be redistributed among the remaining top-six forwards.
Winnipeg will face off against the Dallas Stars on Friday night without Vilardi, as well as newcomer Colin Miller, and mainstays Cole Perfetti and Dylan Samberg, who will each serve as healthy scratches, as the club looks for some change in its pursuit of consistent performance.
The game int set to be played from Canada Life Centre at 7:00 PM central time.
