The Seattle Kraken have added former Winnipeg Jets interim head coach Dave Lowry to the fold.
The team announced the move as Lowry stepping in to serve as an assistant to head coach Dave Hakstol, while joining Jay Leach, Paul McFarland and Steve Briere to round out the coaching staff for the Kraken's second year in the league.
"Dave brings experience to our coaching staff," general manager Ron Francis said. "He had a long and successful NHL playing career and has significant coaching experience at the NHL and junior ranks. Dave will be a valuable addition to Dave Hakstol's staff."
"Paying more than 1,000 games in the National Hockey League brings instant credibility," Hakstol added. "He's been a really solid character guy throughout his career as a player, teammate and coach. We're excited to add that deep experience."
Interestingly, after the Jets opted to go a different direction in bringing in a fully new bench staff for 2022-23, Lowry was let go from his role. Not really given a fair shot after gaining the interim head coaching tag when Paul Maurice walked out on the club in December, Lowry tried his best to help turn around a slumping Jets club, but it just didn't seem to work.
Now, with fellow Jets coach Jamie Kompon officially joining Paul Maurice and the Panthers, Lowry will also get a chance to start over with a new group in the United States.
"I love working with the players," Lowry said. "I really enjoy watching the development from the start of the year to the end of the year, especially with the younger guys. You look at the organization in Seattle. They've got some young players that are going to transition into being roster players."
Development camp for the Kraken will begin in September, with the preseason set to open on the 26th.
