I know I’m not the only one that does it.
In this new normal of working from home it’s so easy to have the TV on in the background to listen to the news, check on the weather, or watch some old-time hockey highlights.
This morning Sportsnet was playing a playoff game from 1993 between the Winnipeg Jets and the Vancouver Canucks. Teemu Selanne had a hat trick in an entertaining win and I came to a dramatic conclusion.
I still miss hockey. A lot.
But we have whisperings that hockey may be returning later this summer. It may not look the same as a normal season, but plans are in the works to finish the regular season and then proceed to playoffs. It currently looks as though the NHL will have one host city per division, ones that have least been affected by Covid-19, and the host sites will lessen as the NHL Playoffs progress. The games would have no fans in the stands, but you can watch them on TV.
Hey, it’s some good news after a lot of uncertainty. It feels good to hear some good news, doesn’t it? Let’s see if we can keep this going…
Hey Manitoba, remember freezing your fingers off during some of the white out parties? Well, if the Jets make the playoffs this year you can go for your morning 18 holes, do some yardwork in the afternoon, and fire up the barbecue for dinner as you watch the game on your deck. Now we will know what it’s like to be a Lightning or Coyotes fan!
And now when the playoffs are over, we won’t have to wait for a long off-season for hockey to resume. The fun will continue very soon after the conclusion of the playoffs.
Right now the situation still might be vague, but we are moving in the right direction, and for now I think that’s all we can ask for.
