Winnipeg's Brenden Dillon banned for three games
The Winnipeg Jets will not have the services of defenceman Brenden Dillon for the next 10 days.
No, the rugged blueliner is not hurt, but rather suspended following a play from Tuesday night's game in Pittsburgh.
The 33-year-old checked Pittsburgh's Noel Acciari in the open ice, causing him to smash his face on the ice as his helmet flew into the air. Dillon followed through on the check, but did make his first contact to Acciari's head.
The NHL's Department of Player Safety ruled that Dillon should have eased off the check and not carried through. As a result of this play, Dillon will forfeit roughly $61K from his $3.9 million salary, which will go towards the NHL's Emergency Player Assistance Fund.
Dillon will miss Thursday's game against Philadelphia, Saturday's game against Pittsburgh, and Wednesday's game vs. San Jose, before returning to face the Vancouver Canucks on the road next Saturday, February 17th.
