Cicek, a product of Winnipeg Minor, to join abbotsford canucks
The San Jose Sharks have dealt defenceman Nick Cicek to the Vancouver Canucks.
The Winnipeg product has been moved to the Canucks alongside a 2024 sixth round draft pick in exchange for forward Jack Studnicka.
“We would like to thank Jack for his time with the Vancouver Canucks,” Canucks' general manager Patrik Allvin said. “We wish him the best moving forward and are pleased to add another depth defenceman for Abbotsford to work with and develop.”
Undrafted, the now 23-year-old Cicek has suited up in 16 total NHL games over the course of his career, earning four assists and 15 penalty minutes in the process. He will now join the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
He has skated in 18 AHL contests with the San Jose Barracuda this year, where he has a goal, three points and 21 penalty minutes on the season. Cicek has 108 career AHL games to his name, with seven goals, 31 points and 121 penalty minutes to boot.
Prior to joining the Sharks organization by way of an entry-level free agent contract, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound forward played his Major Junior career with the Western Hockey League's Portland Winterhawks. He served as team captain in the final season of his four-year career.
Cicek got his start in hockey through Hockey Winnipeg's AAA program, where he played for both the Winnipeg Monarchs and Wild, before suiting up for one year with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Winnipeg Blues.
