My grandma died in August of 2016 after a long battle with cancer and while it brought the family closer together, her death wasn’t easy to handle. She did so much for me, my dad and my brother. I could never thank her enough. When I was 16, just before she passed away, I went to Portland and played four seasons with the WHL’s Winterhawks and in 2017 was drafted by the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round (sixth overall) of the NHL entry draft. <h2>JETS BLUES BANG AROUND CANADA LIFE CENTRE IN A HARD-NOSED 2-1 JETS WIN</h2>The Whiteclads at the Canada Life Centre had plenty to cheer about on Monday night. And for the second time in three nights their beloved Winnipeg Jets responded to the din.&nbsp;It was scream time once again at the White House on Portage and the Jets took everything the St. Louis Blues had to give and gave it all right back as they ground the Blues into the ice, winning 2-1 in a thriller.&nbsp;As a result, the Jets will head into St. Louis for Thursday night’s Game 3, leading the first round of the Stanley Cup’s Central Division semifinal 2-0.&nbsp;Once again, it wasn’t pretty, but it was pure Jets hockey. At least, it was 2024-25 Jets hockey. Skate, hit, grind, repeat. Don’t give the opponent anything, clog the middle, clean up the front of the net and let Connor Hellebuyck do what he does best – stop everything he can see.&nbsp;“It’s fun, this is what you play for,” said Jets D-man Luke Schenn, who was brilliant once again. “When games are this physical and this tight and the compete-level is so high on both teams, these are the ones you love. These are the ones you want to be a part of. After a game like this you’ll go home and feel sore, but it’s a good sore. You’re tired, obviously, but when you come away with a win, it doesn’t hurt as much.”<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/1h0a1071go.jpg">&nbsp;Mark Scheifele, the game’s first star was full marks for the honour. He drove the net, battled in the corners, caused chaos in the neutral zone, backchecked with authority and even won more faceoffs than he lost.&nbsp;For Scheifele, it was an almost perfect game. His aggressive net drive in the first period resulted in the game’s first goal. In the third period, his work behind the net, work that got Cole Perfetti the puck in an open spot, led to Kyle Connor’s winning goal. Scheifele was the best player on the ice for a lot of reasons.&nbsp;Scheifele has now posted back-to-back multi-point games and has five points – two goals and three assists -- in the first two playoff games. He is the first player in franchise history to record multiple point outings in each of their first two games of any playoff year.&nbsp;Connor scored the winning goal for the second straight night, and he was one of the better Jets checkers. He also didn’t get selfish and take chances after the Jets went ahead 2-1. He played safe and smart and did the job in every zone.<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/1h0a0845go.jpg">&nbsp;“They came hard again just like they did in Game 1,” Connor said of the Blues. “It was a tight checking game and there weren’t odd-man rushes. They weren’t going to get beat that way and we weren’t going to get beat that way. It just came down to who wanted it more and after we got that go-ahead goal, we just did a great job of clogging up the middle and just playing good D in our zone.”&nbsp;These Jets are a resilient lot. Not many NHL teams could survive against a fast, hard-nosed lot like the Blues, a team that was red-hot down the stretch, with two of its best players out with injuries. But the Jets have taken a 2-0 series lead without Gabriel Vilardi and Nikolaj Ehlers.&nbsp;And they’ve done it because the sound defensive hockey they played all season has been amplified in this series. To think that the Blues only goal in Game 2 came on a power play with less than one second remaining in the first period says a great deal about the Jets buy-in. A team full of skilled players who can score goals have so far checked their egos at the door and played smart, responsible, tough playoff hockey.&nbsp;Most coaches would consider Monday night’s win a masterpiece. Forecheck hard, clog up the neutral zone and then play angry, aggressive hockey in your own end. It’s called a 200-foot game and it’s been played by all 18 Jets skaters.&nbsp;I mean, really. When Logan Stanley is the third star because he laid Blues bodies all over the ice for the 10 minutes and seven seconds of ice time he received, it says that his physical contribution should be lauded. And it should.&nbsp;But frankly, the best D-men on the ice were Josh Morrissey, Dylan Samberg and Luke Schenn. Samberg played 24 minutes and 30 seconds, Morrissey played 21 minutes and 53 seconds and Schenn played 17 minutes and 27 seconds. Schenn had seven hits and was plus-two; Morrissey had two shots, two takeaways, two blocked shots and was plus-one; and Samberg had two shots, two hits and two blocked shots.&nbsp;They were all just so good.&nbsp;Both teams had 22 shots on goal. But St. Louis had 10 in the first period and only 12 the rest of the way. The Jets also outhit the Blues 33-29 and make no mistake, St. Louis came to town looking to hit people. The Jets took none of it and gave most of it back.&nbsp;Game 3 goes Thursday night in St. Louis. It’ll be close, just so long as the Jets keep doing what they’re doing.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2>Jets come out on top in game 2</h2>RECAP:The Winnipeg Jets have taken Game 2 from the jaws of the St. Louis Blues. Coming out a little slow once again, Winnipeg woke itself up thanks in large part to a heavy neutral zone check by defenceman Logan Stanley, and partially due to another tactical defensive outing.This time, the Jets scored the first goal, only to see the visitors respond on another power play marker to make it 1-1 after 20 minutes of play. A scoreless second period made way for another big, third period Kyle Connor game-winner, as Mark Scheifele and Cole Perfetti combined to find Connor wide open in front of the net for the go-ahead goal just under two minutes into the final frame.For the second-straight game it was Mark Scheifele and Connor scoring for Winnipeg, with Scheifele getting things going late in the first period. And as much as they'd like to get back out there on the ice on Tuesday night, the Jets will likely use the added day between Games 2 and 3 and Games 3 and 4 for rest, appropriate travel and recovery. With the series shifting to St. Louis and the Enterprise Center booked with concerts on Friday and Saturday, there will be two days off between each contest. Thursday night's game will feature an 8:45 PM central puck drop, while Sunday's test is a noon start. Game 2 Game On Recap: Winnipeg Jets 2 St. Louis Blues 1

<h2>CONNOR AND SCHEIFELE BRILLIANT AS JETS WIN GAME 1</h2>It was money in the bank.&nbsp;With a minute and 36 seconds remaining in regulation time and the game tied 3-3, Mark Scheifele found Kyle Connor alone in his spot. You know the spot. Right around the circle to the opposing goaltender’s left.&nbsp;When the puck hit Connor’s stick it was in the net in a blink. No, not even a blink. The replay camera couldn’t find a focus on the puck until it hit the net and came whipping back out almost as fast as it went in.&nbsp;It was a KFC goal. A classic. And one that will be remembered by a boatload of white-clad crazies who suffered through a few nervous moments in Game 1 of the Western Conference quarterfinal series on Saturday night. In the end, the crazies went home happy as their heroes, the President’s Trophy-winning Winnipeg Jets disposed of the visiting St. Louis Blues 5-3.&nbsp;For the opening night of the Stanley Cup playoffs, this show was a mixed bag. Some of it was good, some of it was bad, but it did have a happy ending.&nbsp;“You just have to stick with it, stay positive and keep doing the right things to get your chances,” said Connor. “On those plays, those cross-ice plays, I’m just trying to get the shot off as quick as possible. It was obviously a great play by Scheif and I just tried to get it off quick.”&nbsp;It certainly wasn’t pretty. In the end there were sticks, gloves and bodies all over the ice as the Blues decided that a good fight might soften up a heavily-favoured Jets team in Game 2 on Monday. And the Blues play in Game 1 can’t be underestimated. St. Louis forced the Jets to grit out a win and don’t forget, St. Louis finished the 2024-25 season 20 points behind Winnipeg, but they arrived at Canada Life Centre ready to play smash-mouth hockey.&nbsp;To their credit, the shorthanded Jets were ready for the assault. Playing without two of their best – Gabriel Vilardi and Nikolaj Ehlers – the Jets ground it out, stayed patient and then, after trailing 3-2 through the first 40 minutes, let the big line carry the load in the third period while everybody else played absolute shut down defence.&nbsp;Make no mistake, every player in a Jets uniform pitched in – so did the fans inside and outside the arena.&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/white-out.jpg">The Jets didn’t allow a Blues goal for the final 38 minutes and 47 seconds of the game. In fact, they allowed only six shots in the last 38 minutes and 47 seconds of the game.&nbsp;Saturday night in downtown Winnipeg, there was another full house, this time it was covered in the undyed lucent pellucidity of a Winnipeg White Out and these fanatics screamed, cajoled and prayed that their Jets would get back into a game they should have controlled from the opening face-off.&nbsp;The Jets led 2-1 midway through the first, but allowed the visiting Blues to tie it before the end of the period and then take the lead in the second. Two of the three Blues’ goals were scored on the power play and all three were shots that went over the glove of Connor Hellebuyck and just under the bar.&nbsp;Ahead 3-2 after 40 minutes, the Blues played strong defensively to start the third, but then, in the wink of an eye, everything changed. At the 9:18 mark, Scheifele found Alex Iafallo alone to the left side of Blues’ goalie Jordan Binnington and fed him a perfect pass (while under duress). Iafallo proceeded to sneak the puck through the five hole and suddenly it was all tied up.&nbsp;Then, the Jets won a faceoff in the Blues zone, the puck went to Morrissey who fed Scheifele who whipped a pass to Connor who one-timed it past a startled, out-of-position Binnington.&nbsp;Not surprisingly, the Whiteclads went bonkers.&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/1h0a0461go.jpg">Adam Lowry added an empty netter, Iafallo kicked the crap out of two Blues and Hellebuyck made a couple of game-saving stops in the third, and the Jets escaped with a 5-3 victory.&nbsp;Winnipeg outshot St. Louis 26-17, but the Blues dominated every other statistic. The Jets are not the same team without Ehlers and Vilardi – oh they could play without one of them and still be the President’s Trophy-winning Jets, but not without both – and yet they were still better than the Blues because (a) the big line with Iafallo and not Vilardi, was terrific, (b) Hellebuyck made the big saves when he had to and (c) the Jets second, third and fourth lines did what they needed to do. They shut down the Blues with authority.&nbsp;Scheifele finished with a goal and two assists, Connor had the winning goal and two assists, Morrissey had two assists and the virtually unknown Jared Anderson-Dolan got credit for the Jets second goal.&nbsp;Scheifele notched his third three-point game in the playoffs and surpassed Blake Wheeler to become the Jets franchise leader in career playoff points. He now has 41.&nbsp;“It’s obviously really cool,” Scheifele said. “To do it in front of the fans tonight was pretty special. It was a fun game to be a part of. I had a fun time.”&nbsp;It might not have been a Rembrandt, but it was a win in a difficult situation and everyone contributed.&nbsp;“I like that we didn’t start cheating the game,” said captain Adam Lowry afterward. “The structure was there. Once we settled into the game, we didn’t give them a lot of chances and didn’t give them a whole lot and I think that’s a good blueprint for success right there.”&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/1h0a4918go.jpg">Indeed. <h2>Jets Overcome Blues' strong start for 5-3 win</h2>RECAP:The Winnipeg Jets have opened the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a win. A scary win, a come-from-behind win, a gritty win - But a win, nonetheless.Falling behind at two points in the series-opener, the league's No. 1 team battled back from 1-0 and 3-2 deficits, pulling ahead 4-3 with 1:36 to play in the third period, before adding another into the empty net for a 5-3 final.Both Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor scored and picked up two helpers, as Connor Hellebuyck made 14 saves in the 5-3 win.Scheifele setup Alex Iafallo for the game-tying goal midway through the third period, before he put one on the tape for Connor with just over a minute-and-a-half remaining in the game. Adam Łowry scored into the empty net with seconds remaining to put the game out of reach. That was when St. Louis opted for some extra curriculars in the Jets' defensive end. Two miniature fights broke out in the final stages of the game, amping up the already raucous sellout crowd of 15,225 gathered inside Canada Life Centre. The first period was sloppy for both clubs, as the teams exchanged four goals - three of which came on power plays - before the clock hit zeros. The second period saw the Blues' final goal of the game, which came with 38 minutes remaining. Interestingly enough, the Jets shut down St. Louis' attack after that goal, allowing just eight total shots between the second and third periods. Incredibly, the Blues only managed two shots on goal in the entire third period.Game 2 of the series will go from Winnipeg on Monday evening. <h2>No. 1 JETS ARE 55-22-4 heading into final game wednesday</h2>The Winnipeg Jets have won the President’s Trophy.&nbsp;In 46 years of off and on NHL hockey in Winnipeg, it’s the first time the Jets have had a trophy to celebrate.&nbsp;And while it doesn’t mean what the Stanley Cup means, it’s important in so many ways.&nbsp;Sunday night at Canada Life Centre, the Jets (55-22-4) were beaten 4-1 by the visiting Edmonton Oilers in a game with limited checking and a pre-season vibe. It didn’t quite look like an All-Star game, but it sure had that no-hit feeling: The playoffs start Saturday, let’s make sure no one gets hurt.&nbsp;Regardless, the Columbus Blue Jackets went into Washington and beat the Capitals for the second straight day, this time 4-1, and that was enough to guarantee that the President’s Trophy, the honour that goes to the team that was No. 1 during the 82-game regular season, will reside for one whole year in Winnipeg, Man., the smallest market in the National Hockey League.&nbsp;Say what you will about the President’s Trophy – that it doesn’t really mean anything, that it’s a jinx, that it’s small comfort if you don’t win the Stanley Cup – it’s important for a franchise that hasn’t won jack squat in its two incarnations as an NHL franchise.&nbsp;Jets 1.0 had a solid season in 1984-85, but the rest of it, at least from a team standpoint, was forgettable. Sure, Dale Hawerchuk and Teemu Selanne and the Pokey and the Bandit years were fun but as a team, the Jets couldn’t beat Wayne Gretzky’s Oilers and the rest of it was a yearly battle just to grab a playoff spot (only to eventually be kicked by Edmonton).&nbsp;Jets 2.0 started with the lowly Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg in 2011. After a great season in 2017-18, the new owners had to battle through COVID and all the economic hardship the pandemic carried with it. Ultimately, Mark Chipman’s hockey operations team, led by GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, built a team worthy of winning a historically significant NHL trophy. And regardless of what happens in the post-season, there is something to celebrate.&nbsp;The President’s Trophy is meaningless to many, but it means something to me and it should mean something to people who purchase hockey tickets. Winning the President’s Trophy means the team you cheer for arrived at the rink every night ready to pit on a show. They worked hard, put together a superb home record and gave fans value for the dollar spent on tickets.&nbsp;Hockey tickets are expensive and when a team struggles at home it becomes a questionable investment. It was getting that way in Winnipeg after COVID. Ticket sales were way down, and the franchise was struggling.&nbsp;But this season, the Scott Arniel-coached Jets won 55-plus games and finished first overall. Every night, they worked hard. And sure, that 4-1 loss to Columbus, the 4-1 loss to Detroit and the 5-3 loss to Buffalo were hard to stomach, but hell, the Jets went into Sunday night’s game with a record of 29-6-4 at home. That’s impressive. And it’s a tribute to a team that cares about its fans and wants them to be happy with that big ticket investment.&nbsp;And when someone suggests the President’s Trophy is a jinx in the Stanley Cup playoffs, that someone doesn’t know the facts. The President’s Trophy has been handed out 37 times and of the 37 winners, eight have gone on to win the Stanley Cup. Considering that 16 teams make the playoffs every year, eight winners in 37 chances gives the President’s Trophy winner the best odds of any team any year. If nothing else, the No. 1 seed has home ice advantage throughout the playoffs (if that means anything anymore).&nbsp;Frankly, I can’t wait for a franchise that is on the no-trade list of 49 per cent of the players in the NHL, have its big party this spring. The guys on this Jets team deserve to go a long way in the Stanley Cup tournament.&nbsp;Last night, the Jets sat most of their regulars as they prepare for the post-season to start on Saturday. That’s one of the reasons this matchup looked a lot like a pre-season game. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;After a scoreless first period that shouldn’t have been scoreless – midway through the period, Winnipeg’s Nino Niederreiter was all alone in front of Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner, he brought Skinner to his knees and with a wide-open top half, backhanded it over the net – the Oilers opened the scoring at the 59 second mark of Period 2.&nbsp;Connor Brown was left alone in front as the Jets gave up the puck at their own blueline to Connor McDavid. McDavid feathered a pass to Brown who faked out Eric Comrie, and Edmonton was up 1-0.&nbsp;But the Jets tied it on the power play at 6:16 when Alex Iafallo banged home Mark Scheifele’s rebound. It was Iafallo’s 15th of the year and Scheifele’s 48th assist.&nbsp;Adam Henrique scored a power play goal at 12:39, but it was actually a five-on-three. Henrique scored after a slap shot from close range by Evan Bouchard, hit Dylan Samberg on the foot. Samberg went down and lay on the ice in pain as the Oilers passed the puck around until Henrique was able to bat a bouncing puck out of the air and past Comrie. The injury to Samberg could be significant with the playoffs coming up. Samberg has been one of the Jets best defenceman all season.&nbsp;Sadly, the injury never would have occurred if the officials hadn’t called a chintzy hooking penalty on Scheifele in the first place.&nbsp;From this point forward, the Jets were no longer in the game. Edmonton came with a roster set to win while the Jets had one big line, a decent second line and a collection of Moose, Black Aces and fourth-liners. With the loss of Samberg, the Jets defence was down to Ville Heinola, Logan Stanley, Hayden Fleury, Colin Miller and Dylan DeMelo.&nbsp;The Oilers had outshot the Jets 28-12 after two periods (18-5 in the second), but only led 2-1 as Comrie had been sensational at times.&nbsp;In the third period, Corey Perry scored for Edmonton at 12:25 and the rest of the evening was devoted to getting out without any more injuries. Viktor Arvidsson tallied an empty-netter at 18:40, Edmonton outshot Winnipeg 39-18 and Eric Comrie, who played his career-high 20th game of the season, was clearly the best player on the ice.&nbsp;When Anaheim comes to town on Wednesday (6:10 p.m. start), the local side should dress as many Manitoba Moose players as the league allows.&nbsp;The Winnipeg Jets have done their regular season job. Winning the President’s Trophy is a big deal. Now, it’s time for some playoff hockey.

St. Louis responded five minutes later, making it 1-1 through the second frame.Iafallo potted home a rebound for his 14th of the season off a strong cycle play from Kyle Connor midway through the third period. Winnipeg's penalty kill and six-on-five special teams came up clutch in the final moments, helping kill off the remaining time on the clock and preserving the team's record 53rd win, snapping the Blues' 12-game win streak in the process.Despite all this, the Jets' next game may even be bigger than the one just played on Monday. <h2>COMRIE'S SHUTOUT GIVES JETS 4-0 WIN OVER VEGAS</h2>LAS VEGAS, NV -- The Winnipeg Jets got a superb goaltending performance from Eric Comrie and put an end to an eight-game regular-season losing streak against the Vegas Golden Knights.&nbsp;Thursday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., the Jets got goals from Mark Scheifele, Adam, Lowry, Colin Miller and Cole Perfetti and a 25-save shutout by Comrie as Winnipeg whipped the hometown Vegas Golden Knights 4-0.&nbsp;It was an outstanding bounce back win after that horrible 4-1 loss in Los Angeles on Tuesday night and it left the Jets with a record of 52-20-4, three points ahead of the Washington Capitals in the race for first overall and four points ahead of the Dallas Stars in the battle for top spot in the West. The Jets have six games remaining this season.&nbsp;On Thursday night in Vegas, the Jets dominated the first two periods and then counted on their defensive play and a brilliant effort from Comrie in the third period to put the game away.&nbsp;And they did it without Gabriel Vilardi, Neal Pionk, Rasmus Kupari and David Gustafsson.&nbsp;As well, they might have lost Nikolaj Ehlers, who as simply beaten up by the puck on Thursday night. He took a shot off the ankle in the first period, but went back into the game. Then he was tripped in the third and appeared to hurt the same ankle and then, during the power play, took another shot off the ankle and had to be helped to the bench.&nbsp;The Jets had to play most of the third period without him and they still prevailed.“(Coach Scott Arniel) and the coaching staff has a lot of trust in me,” Comrie said. “’Arnie’ told me a couple days ago, ‘He doesn't care who's playing because we have full confidence in you.’ That gave me a lot of confidence in myself, and it just gave me a belief in myself to go out there and do what I have to do.”&nbsp;The Jets opened the scoring at 13:01 of the first period when Alex Iafallo made a solid play at the Knights blueline to create a two-on-one with Mark Scheifele, Iafallo had a great chance to shoot it himself, but chose to make a perfect pass to Scheifele who drilled it past Knights netminder Adin Hill. It was Scheifele’s 37th goal of the season as Iafallo and Luke Schenn drew the assists.&nbsp;The Jets made it 2-0 at 18:15 when Adam Lowry worked the puck into the Knights corner and whipped it around the boards to Logan Stanley (with some help from Mason Appleton) at the point. Stanley fired a shot at the net, Nino Niederreiter took a whack at the rebound and Lowry banged home the rebound off the Niederreiter attempt. It was the Lowry’s 15th goal of the season, tied for his career best (2016-17). Niederreiter and Stanley got the helpers.&nbsp;The Jets took that 2-0 advantage into the locker room at intermission. Winnipeg outshot Vegas 11-9 in the opening period (although it was more like 15-9 but who’s counting, seriously, who’s counting?), the Knights won 65 per cent of the faceoffs and the Jets outhit Vegas 13-12.&nbsp;The Jets took a 3-0 lead at 11:53 of the second period on the power play when Colin Miller just unloaded with a shot from inside the blueline that Hill never saw (clocked at 96 miles per hour). It was Miller’s fourth of the season as Appleton and Niederreiter drew the assists.&nbsp;The 3-0 lead didn’t appear to help the Jets. In fact, were it not for three superb saves by Comrie – one highlight reel stop off a shot from Mark Stone – the game might have been tied. It could have been Comrie’s best stretch as a Jet.&nbsp;However, what was quite interesting is the fact the building nearly emptied after Winnipeg made it 3-0. There is just too much to do in Las Vegas that is more interesting than watching a losing hockey team.&nbsp;Both teams had eight shots in the second period (Jets led 19-13 after 40 minutes), Vegas won 55 per cent of the faceoffs and Winnipeg outhit the Knights 10-8 (23-20 overall).&nbsp;Las Vegas started the third period by sending Hill to the bench and placing No. 3 netminder Akira Schmid between the pipes. Of course, by this time, T-Mobile Arena was barely half full.&nbsp;The Jets, meanwhile, played Jets third-period hockey, spent most of the time in their own end checking like crazy and got that sensational goaltending performance from Comrie.&nbsp;Finally, at 19:09, Cole Perfetti was sent away by Kyle Connor and backhanded a shot into the empty net to put it away.&nbsp;Vegas outshot Winnipeg 15-3 in the third period, but the Jets scored the only goal. It was an almost perfect road game. Vegas outshot Winnipeg 28-22. The three stars, as chosen by the Winnipeg Sun and the Winnipeg Free Press were 1. Eric Comrie, 2. defenceman Luke Shenn and 3. Captain Adam Lowry.“The messaging from ‘Arnie’ is just about the process, taking care of that and the results will follow,” Lowry told reporters. “We talked about coming in here against another red-hot team, another dangerous team off the rush, and a team that really makes it hard to get to the net. You got to be willing to get inside. You must be willing to win those races and win those battles. We did a good job listening to that message and getting to the heart of the ice, especially in the first half of the game.”The Jets will play again on Saturday night when they face the Utah Hockey Club at 6 p.m. CDT.

MVP! at Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, the Winnipeg won its third straight game and pulled three points ahead of the Washington Capitals in the race for the President’s Trophy.&nbsp;Thanks to the brilliance of Hellebuyck and a goal by Perfetti that will be talked about for a long time, the Jets beat the desperate Vancouver Canucks 3-1 to improve to 51-19-4.&nbsp;Now, with 106 points, the Jets have pulled three points ahead of Washington for first overall. The Capitals fell 8-5 to the Buffalo Sabres in Washington and are now 47-17-9.&nbsp;Meanwhile, the Jets are also six points ahead of Dallas in the race for first in the Western Conference.&nbsp;With the win, the Jets still have the best home record in the NHL – 28-6-4. Meanwhile, Hellebuyck leads the NHL with 43 wins, and is now only two wins away from breaking his own franchise record for wins in a season. He had 44 in 2017-18.&nbsp;Meanwhile, Mark Scheifele extended his point streak to five games and Kyle Connor scored his 38th goals of the campaign. &nbsp;&nbsp;It was a big bounce back win against a Canucks team fighting for a playoff berth. On March 18, the Canucks whipped the Jets 6-2 in Vancouver.&nbsp;“We remembered what they did to us when we played in their barn a couple of weeks ago and we had a sour taste in our mouths,” said Mason Appleton, who scored the winning goal and was the game’s first star. “We’re a resilient team. This was a full effort for 60-minutes tonight.”&nbsp;The opening period was typical of a Jets afternoon game. It was mostly lethargic, the Jets got nothing from a one-minute two-man advantage, had a number of scoring chances and shot wide and gave up a goal to the Canucks, late in the period.&nbsp;At 18:55 Tyler Myers sent Pius Suter in alone on Hellebuyck and he beat the Jets goaltender high to the stick side and Vancouver, who really did nothing for the entire period, took a 1-0 lead into the intermission. Now, the goal was allowed although Suter was clearly offside. The Jets challenged the call, but the geniuses in Toronto who sit in front of the monitors were looking at something else and didn’t see that Suter was a foot offside. As a result, the goal counted and Winnipeg was assessed a minor penalty for delay of game that would carry over to the seond period.&nbsp;The Jets outshot the visitors 9-6 in the first and won 52.9 per cent of the faceoffs but they simply were not engaged around the Canucks net.&nbsp;In the second period, the crowd sat quietly as virtually nothing happened for the first nine minutes. Sold out Canada Life Centre was eerily silent until Mark Scheifele hit Kyle Connor in full flight across centre ice. Connor flew into the Canucks zone and fired a low, hard wrister that went between the legs of Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko and suddenly the game was tied. More importantly, the crowd woke up.&nbsp;It was Connor’s 38th goal of the year and Scheifele’s 45th assist. Colin Miller also drew his 10th assist of the season.&nbsp;The period ended with the game tied at one apiece. Vancouver, who two power plays to none for the Jets, outshot Winnipeg 11-7 and were up 17-16 after two periods. After 40 minutes of play, the Jets had won 55 per cent of the faceoffs while Vancouver had outhit Winnipeg 34-15.&nbsp;In the third period, the Jets got the go-ahead goal from Mason Appleton, who scored the way he plays. Nikolaj Ehlers ripped a shot toward the net that Demko handled, but Adam Lowry worked to get the puck loose and with players falling all over the ice, Appleton crashed the net and banged home the loose puck in the crease. Lowry and Ehlers drew the assists as Winnipeg took a 2-1 lead at 6:24.&nbsp;Then at 12:11, Cole Perfetti scored a highlight-reel spectacular that nearly brought the house down. First, he made a move that might have broken both the ankles of Canucks defenceman Derek Forbort, who was beaten like a rented mule. Then Perfetti went in alone on Demko and roofed it, short-side, for the Jets third goal of the game. Jets fans will talking about that one for a while.&nbsp;In the end, the Jets not only won the game, they also outshot Vancouver 27-24 and won 51.7 per cent of the faceoffs. Vancouver outhit Winnipeg 50-24 -- an amazing number of hits in one game. Kiefer Sherwood led the way for Vancouver with 10 of them. Adam Lowry had five hits for Winnipeg.&nbsp;The Jets will now head out onto the road for three huge games away from the friendly confines of downtown Winnipeg. They play in L.A. on Tuesday, Las Vegas on Thursday and Salt Lake City on Saturday.&nbsp;Game time Tuesday night from Los Angeles is 9:30 p.m. CDT.
