Toronto-based Sportsnet rinkside reporter Shawn McKenzie was arrested in Nashville, TN. this past weekend.
According to the local police report, the 33-year-old Ontario product was booted from the popular Jason Aldean's Kitchen and Rooftop Bar on Saturday night after making a scene while heavily under the influence of alcohol.
"On the morning of June 4, 2022, officers were called to Jason Aldean's Kitchen Bar for a disturbance," warrant number GS970237 read. "The defendant was found outside of the location arguing with staff. Staff stated that he had been acting rude and had been asked to leave. The defendant stated that he had paid for a table and refused to leave the location. The defendant appeared to be intoxicated and was verbally argumentitve. His speech was slurred and his movements were uncoordinated."
The local officers appeared to have sorted out the situation and McKenzie left the premises. But then, unable to cut his losses, the young Rogers employee turned around and went back for more. That was when police intervened and booked him for the night.
"Officers informed the defendant that he needed to leave the location and he refused to do so until he was told that he would be arrested for criminal trespass if he did not do so," the official arrest warrant read. "He continued to argue with officers, but left the location. After several minutes of walking in the nearby area the defendant returned to the bar and began to argue with staff once more. The defendant was placed under arrest for public intoxication and criminal trespass."
McKenzie spent the night at Metro Nashville Jail and was released on a $200 bond the following morning. He is scheduled to appear before a judge at the Court of General Sessions of Davidson County on July 1 to defend his case.
McKenzie, 33, has served as a reporter and host with Sportsnet since 2013. His most recent venture is that of supporting his father, Bob's, passion for alcohol, in his recently-launched, ready-to-drink cocktail, Bobby Margarita.
"If the defendant's charge is dismissed, a no true bill is returned by a grand jury, the defendant is arrested and released without being charged with an offense, or the court enters a nolle proscqui in the defendant's case the defendant is entitled, upon petition by the defendant to the court having jurisdiction over the action, to the removal and destruction of all public records relating to the case without cost to the defendant," the warrant continued.
