This past week, Brandon Wheat Kings owner Jared Jacobson put pen to paper on a letter to all Wheat Kings fans, following what has been - by all accounts - another disappointing season for Manitoba's oldest Western Hockey League club. He spoke of various moves made by the front office and the team's ongoing rebuild.
His encouragement to fans is that of a highly-successful 2023-24 campaign, to which all should consider purchasing tickets.
The entirety of Jacobson's message - originally found at WheatKings.com - can be found below:
"To all Wheat King fans,
After finishing sixth place in the Eastern Conference last year and breaking playoff attendance records in the first round of the WHL playoffs against Red Deer, we had high hopes for the team this season as we looked to rise up the standings. We got off to a solid start that included a very impressive West Coast Swing against some tough competition. The weeks following, we had a tough time finding consistency, which led us to make a change with our coaching staff. Our newly appointed General Manager Marty Murray took over the Head Coaching duties and immediately made an impact. Not only did we start winning, but our team had more energy. Shortly after, while evaluating our roster, we decided to make some changes not only for the present, but for the future. This involved countless hours before and at the deadline acquiring experience, in players like Dawson Pasternak, Kayden Sadhra-Kang, while also adding some highly touted younger players in Luke Shipley, Nolan Flamand and Anthony Wilson. Throughout this process we were also fortunate to acquire an additional first round pick in what is expected to e a solid 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.
When I took over ownership of the Brandon Wheat Kings, I could immediately feel the pride and support that our community has for this team. I'm writing to you today to ensure you that we will do everything in our power to bring this fan base its first Memorial Cup in our franchises' history. While we are not there yet, we are making progress. To become a championship franchise, it will take patience and adaptability to get our Hockey Operations and Player Development structure to where it needs to be. We are already seeing early results in player development, showcasing two highly touted prospects for the 2023 NHL Entry Draft in Carson Bjarnason and Nate Danielson. Both players are expected- to hear their names called early at the Draft in Nashville this June.
We are currently in the middle of an intense playoff push with a young, energetic and talented team. We are battling a challenging but workable schedule ahead and the players and staff are committed to a push for the Gold Rush. It will be a grind, but more importantly it will show us what we have and what we need to be successful.
I am writing today to inform you that we have a very aggressive offer to join us in what is sure to be a great ride in 2023-24. When you purchase your season tickets by February 28th you will receive one of the best prices in the entire WHL. In fact, when we look around the league, we are offering you the third lowest season ticket prices out of all 22 WHL Franchises. Our goal is for our in-game experience to be of utmost quality and affordability to everyone in attendance. In cooperation with the Keystone management we promise to make this happen in phases as we want to grow our fan base, reward our season ticket holders for being so passionate and especially want to make sure that everyone attending our building..."your building"... has the best experience in the WHL.
To purchase your season tickets please visit wheatkings.com/seasontickets or stop by or call us at the Wheat Kings office at 204-726-3535. In closing, I would like to personally thank the fans for responding to the survey questions throughout the 2022/2023 season. Without your feedback we cannot update or enhance your experience at the arena. I want you to know that we heard you loud and clear and you have my promise you will see changes in the building over phases to come. We want our fans to know that we are committed to the ultimate goal of bringing Brandon, Westman and the entire province of Manitoba a Memorial Cup one day. Thank you for being a fan. Your commitment and passion for the Brandon Wheat Kings not only fuels our team, but supports and motivates our entire organization, our City and the Brandon Business community at large.
With gratitude,
Jared Jacobson."
