Former winnipeg sharks goaltender earns top WHL weekly prize
The Western Hockey League has announced Ethan Buenaventura as its Goaltender of the Week.
The Winnipeg product went 2-1-0 on the week, while posting a 1.67 goals against average, a .950 save percentage and the first shutout of his WHL career.
The 19-year-old picked up a 6-3 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings in his first game of the week, turning aside 32 shots, before moving on to face the Red Deer Rebels a couple days later. His Calgary Hitmen eventually lost the game 2-1 with 30 seconds left, handing Buenaventura his lone defeat of the week. He rebounded with a strong shutout performance against the Medicine Hat Tigers, turning aside every puck he faced in Calgary's 2-0 win.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound backstop now owns a 19-19-5-1 record to go alongside a 3.54 goals against average and a .899 save percentage on the year, while facing the third-most shots of all goaltenders, and the third-most saves league-wide.
Buenaventura and the Hitmen are 25-27-7-1 on the year and remain right in the chase for the final postseason spot in the Eastern Conference.
