Conor Geekie to face no further discipline
Team Canada lost star forward Conor Geekie just 11 seconds into its game vs. Germany on Sunday.
The Strathclair, Manitoba product threw a monstrous check on defenceman Samuel Schindler, who flew to the ice on his first touch of the puck following the opening face-off.
Geekie, a first round pick of the Arizona Coyotes, was handed a five-minute major and ejected from the game, which Canada ended up winning 6-3.
Playing shorthanded, Canada got two goals from star Macklin Celebrini, and singles from Easton Cowan, Jordan Dumais, Owen Beck and Brayden Yager, while Mathis Rousseau stood tall in net, turning aside 17 shots in the win.
Following the game, the International Ice Hockey Federation's disciplinary panel announced that upon further review, Geekie would be available to play for Canada in the quarterfinal against Czechia on Tuesday. His ejection was warranted and was deemed discipline enough for his actions.
The young forward will rejoin his teammates for Tuesday's 7:30 AM central start time. That game can once again be viewed live on TSN.
