It took only two weeks for the National Collegiate Hockey Conference to start taking notice of Gilbert Plains’ Riese Gaber.

Gaber, the MJHL grad who has made an early mark with the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks this season, was named NCHC Rookie of the Week as the conference announced its weekly award winners from the season-opening NCHC pod in Omaha, Neb. on Monday evening. It was only thye second week of the 2020-21 season.

Gaber, 21, grabbed NCHC Co-Rookie of the Week honors after scoring three goals, including a game-winner in Sunday's victory over Western Michigan. He also added an assist and finished the week with four points in four games. Gaber leads the Fighting Hawks in goals this season with five in the first seven games of the season.

No. 4 North Dakota returns to the ice in Omaha on Wednesday against No. 9 St. Cloud State at 7:35 p.m. CST.

<h2>WITH 3-2 OT LOSS Jets fall to 1-3-1 in last five games</h2>Just when you think you have it in the bag…&nbsp;Monday night at Canada Life Centre, the Winnipeg Jets held a 2-1 advantage over the Ottawa Senators with 1:54 left to play in the third period.That’s when Jake Sanderson scored to tie the game at two and then Brady Tkachuk won it at 2:11 of overtime as the Senators knocked off the Jets 3-2 in front of 13,566 at the downtown rink.It was an unfortunate loss for the Jets who started slowly, got hot for the final two periods but let it slip away at the end. Once again, a team that has spent multi-millions of dollars on goal scorers, didn’t get enough scoring.“That’s a game we should have won,” said Jets coach Scott Arniel. “At the end of the day, these are the games you've got to learn to win. We have to find a way, whatever way that is. If that's making the next play so that it gets out of the zone, if that's blocking a shot, whatever it is, those are the things we need to do. We need two points, not one point. We need points bad."The OT loss dropped the Jets to 15-15-2 on the season, three points out of the final Wild Card spot in the West. The Senators’ victory pushed Ottawa to 15-3-4, four points back of Boston for the final Wild Card berth in the East.The best player on the ice was Ottawa’s Tim Stutzle who, of course, set up Tkachuk with the overtime winner, a wrist shot from the right circle that went over Connor Hellebuyck’s glove.After a scoreless first period, Ottawa opened the scoring at 10:47 of the second on a goal by Nick Cousins, but the Jets bounced back later in the period as Neal Pionk scored from Kyle Connor and Cole Perfetti at 15:37 to tie it. Connor’s assist extended his point streak to nine games. Mistakes are going to happen in a game, and two of them ended up in the back of our net. That’s been a theme for us, but this was a game that I think we should have won.”Stanley’s goal gave the Jets a 2-1 lead that held up until Stutzle set up Sanderson on a two-on-one with just 1:06 left to play in regulation.The Senators outshot the Jets 31-25 (4-1 in overtime), but Ottawa had outshot the Jets 17-9 by the time they scored the first goal of the game. Winnipeg played well enough to win down the stretch, but simply couldn’t hold the fort.Linus Ullmark made 23 saves to record the win while Hellebuyck made 28 stops and took the loss. The return of Connor Hellebuyck after a three-week, 11-game (2-8-1) absence, and game No. 1,000 for Nino Niederreiter.Both players performed well, with Hellebuyck taking the cake. <h2>Jets fall again</h2>RECAP:The Winnipeg Jets have lost another game, this time 6-3 to the Boston Bruins.Giving up six goals usually doesn't result in a win. And on Thursday night, that mantra proved true once again. Giving up three goals in 2:44 in the first period was certainly not in the game plan for head coach Scott Arniel. But yes, it did happen.The Jets did manage to battle back, coming to within one goal of the Bruins two times after falling behind 3-1 early, but they just could not get over the hump. Strathclair, Manitoba's Morgan Geekie (who is second in the league with 22 goals scored) picked up two assists on the night while playing on Boston's top line and power play unit.Morgan Barron, Alex Iafallo and Gabe Vilardi scored for Winnipeg, which dropped to 2-8-1 in its last 11 games since Connor Hellebuyck went down with a knee injury. The Jets are clearly missing their star goaltender, who is drawing near to a return following his arthroscopic knee surgery. That return could not come soon enough. Eric Comrie's play between the pipes in his absence has left a lot to be desired. But Winnipeg's offence has also not been firing on all cylinders. Another big test will take place on Saturday evening, as Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals roll into town for the third set of the four-game homestand. <h2>JETS OUTSHOOT anD OUTHIT DALLAS BUT DON'T OUTSCORE THEM</h2>The Winnipeg Jets outplayed the NHL’s second-best team on Tuesday night.&nbsp;They outshot the Dallas Stars, outhit the Dallas Stars and were clearly the better team. Trouble is, they didn’t outscore the Dallas Stars.&nbsp;Jason Roberston scored what turned out to be the winning goal midway through the third period on Tuesday and despite a brilliant two-goal performance from Mark Scheifele, the Jets fell 4-3 to a team they just can’t seem to find a way to beat.&nbsp;With the loss, the Jets fell to 14-14-1 – 2-7-1 since MVP and Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Connor Hellebuyck left the team to undergo arthroscopic surgery on a chronically injured knee.&nbsp;The Jets have also lost two in a row and are watching the wild card spots in the West fade with every defeat.&nbsp;It was a tough loss on Tuesday as the Jets played very well against one of the best teams in the NHL.&nbsp;The Stars opened the scoring when Esa Lindell beat Eric Comrie 44 seconds into the game on their very first shot. After that, the Jets dominated the period, outshooting Dallas 11-6 and completely controlling all three zones.&nbsp;However, the Jets missed a number of scoring chances and Casey DeSmith was rock-solid in the Stars’ net.&nbsp;In the second period, the Stars quickly made it 2-0 as Roope Hintz finished off a three-way passing play right in front of Comrie. It was the first shot of the second period and came at 1:16.<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/hintz-makes-it-2-0.jpg">Hintz makes it 2-0 Dallas (Photo by Scott Stroh)&nbsp;At 2:34, the Stars made it 3-0 when Alexander Petrovic ripped a shot from 40-feet out that eluded six players in front and Comrie.&nbsp;It looked like a Stars rout on the scoreboard, but it wasn’t that way on the ice. The Jets were all over Dallas, giving them very few scoring chances, but they had three goals on their first eight shots and that was the difference.&nbsp;The Jets finally got on the board when Mark Scheifele stole the puck in front of the Stars net, got it to Kyle Connor, who fed it back to Scheifele who buried it behind DeSmith. It was Scheifele’s 15th goal of the year and Connor’s 21st assist.&nbsp;Winnipeg got back into the argument at 18:58 when Scheifele took a beautiful pass from Josh Morrissey and roofed one past DeSmith. It was a gorgeous goal, his 16th of the year and second of the game. Morrissey and Connor drew the assists.&nbsp;Dallas led 3-2 after two periods, but they were just holding on. Winnipeg outshot the Stars 14-8 in the second period -- 25-14 after 40 minutes. The Jets had also outhit Dallas 26-6 and were again, dominating play."I think we liked a lot of our game tonight," Logan Stanley said. "I thought that we were the better team, and maybe deserved a little better, but that's kind of the funk we're in right now. We keep battling through it, and, you know, that's a good start and a good kind of game plan for us going forward, we want to play like that. I thought we did a lot of good things.&nbsp;However, just as the Jets were getting back in the game, Dallas got its fourth power play of the night and made good use of it. Jason Robertson scored his 19th of the year at 4:46 of the third period and suddenly the Jets were down 4-2.&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/logan-stanley-scores.jpg">Big Logan Stanley scores his fourth of the year (Photo by Scott Stroh)But the Jets didn’t quit. Big Logan Stanley banged home his own rebound at 5:54 to make it 4-3 as Stanley scored his fourth of the season. Cole Perfetti and Gabriel Vilardi picked up the assists.&nbsp;After that the Jets missed two glorious opportunities to score and kept pressing but the Stars picked up another power play at 11:01 and that sealed Winnipeg’s fate.&nbsp;The Jets fought off the penalty and pressured the Stars, but they just didn’t have the offensive fire-power to even the game. Despite getting one more power play, the Jets had nothing left in the tank.&nbsp;It was an incredible night in terms of ice-time for the Jets. Scheifele got 25 minutes and 47 seconds. Kyle Connor got 25:31. Only one defenceman – Josh Morrissey got more (26:33). Coach Scott Arniel did everything he could to keep Connor and Scheifele on the ice. They way things have gone this season, they are the only players (along with Gabriel Vilardi, who was moved onto a line with Perfetti and Jonathan Toews) who give any indication they can score.&nbsp;In the end, the Jets outshot Dallas 33-19 and outhit them 32-8, but with little secondary scoring and no Hellebuyck, they just don’t have the horses.&nbsp;The Jets play at home again on Thursday night when the Boston Bruins come to town. Game time at the downtown rink is 7 p.m.

Scheifele Scores Twice, Jets Play Well, But Fall 4-3 to Dallas

<h2>COMRIE MAKES 34 Saves To Lead Jets to Big home win</h2>It’s been pretty cold in Winnipeg for the past week. And that was just perfect.&nbsp;They say revenge is best served cold and it was served ice cold on the Buffalo Sabres at Canada Life Centre on Friday night. Thanks to a goal and an assist from both Cole Koepke and Kyle Connor and a brilliant netminding performance by Eric Comrie, the Jets whipped the Sabres 4-1.&nbsp;Considering the Sabres beat the Jets 5-1 in Buffalo on Monday night, this one felt pretty good for the home side.&nbsp;With the win, the Jets improved to 14-12-1 and moved back into the final Wild Card spot in the West. More importantly, after going 1-3-1 on their recent five-game road trip, the Jets are back in the winner’s circle again.&nbsp;“It was important to come home and win this one in front of our fans,” said Koepke after the game. There was no doubt about that.&nbsp;Even though the Sabres dominated the first period, the Jets opened the scoring at 4:24, when Kyle Connor was left alone to the left of Sabres netminder Ukko-Pekka Lukkonen. Lukkonen stopped Connor’s first shot, but the Jets top goal scorer banged the rebound through the goalie’s five hole for his 15th tally of the season. Gabriel Vilardi, who made the pass that set-up Connor drew the primary assist, his 12th of the year, while Dylan Samberg was also credited with a helper.<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/jets-celly.jpg">&nbsp;Jets celebrate Kyle Connor's 15th of the Year (Scott Stroh Photo)Buffalo tied it on the power play at 14:44 as Jason Zucker took care of his own rebound to beat a sprawling Eric Comrie. It was Zucker’s ninth of the year.&nbsp;The Jets had one good scoring chance before the end of the period, but Lukkonen was equal to the task, and the teams went to their respective dressing rooms tied at one. Buffalo outshot Winnipeg 15-8 and completely outskated the home side. In fact, in the first period against this young Sabres team, the Jets looked two-steps too slow.&nbsp;However, Winnipeg went ahead 2-1 at 2:22 of the second period when Cole Koepke stole the puck from Buffalo’s Alex Tuch at the Winnipeg blueline and sent Tanner Pearson in alone on Lukkonen and he made no mistake, burying a wrist shot into the lower-left corner. It was Pearson’s fourth of the season and Koepke’s third assist.&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/pearson-goal.jpg">Big Goal by Tanner Pearson (Photo by Scott Stroh)By the middle of the period, it should have been 4-1 Jets except for, well, stone hands. Mark Scheifele set up Logan Stanley on the doorstep with a wide-open net and, somehow, Stanley found Lukkonen’s pad. Then Adam Lowry was awarded a penalty shot and he proceeded to wander in and push some kind of weak shot right at the Sabres netminder. No team, especially a team struggling to score like the Jets, can miss those gifts and expect to win.&nbsp;And yet, the Jets kept plugging away until the 18:42 mark of the third period when the fourth line struck again. This time Dylan DeMelo fired a stretch pass onto the stick of Morgan Barron who fed Cole Koepke streaking toward the Sabres net. Koepke made a Sidney Crosby move and broke both Lukkonens’s ankles as he tucked the puck into the corner of the goal.&nbsp;It was a goal-scorer’s goal – Koepke’s first as a member of the Jets – and it gave Winnipeg a 3-1 lead heading to the third even though the Jets had been outshot 26-17 (11-9 in the second period).&nbsp;The Jets seemed to make it 4-1 on a goal by Mark Scheifele with 6:36 left to play, but the Sabres protested saying Scheifele was offside earlier in the play. The video declared the indeed he was offside, so it remained 3-1.&nbsp;The Jets did make it 4-1 with an empty netter by Gabriel Vilardi at 19:26. However, right before the goal, Comrie made two outstanding saves and then as the Jets carried the puck into the Buffalo zone, Connor was hooked, slashed and hauled down from behind and neither referee put up his arm. There is something fishy going on in the NHL and the only explanation I have is that the officials make up the rules as they go along.&nbsp;Regardless, Vilardi took a pass from the falling Connor and drilled it into the empty net to put the game away. It was Vilardi’s 12th goal of the year while Connor picked up his 19th assist and Scheifele, who started the play, picked up his 21st assist of the season.<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/comrie.jpg">&nbsp;Eric Comrie had a huge game for the Jets (Scott Stroh Photo)Buffalo outshot Winnipeg 35-23 (9-6 in the third period) as Comrie had a superb game for the Jets. The Jets outhit Buffalo 33-22 and won 53.6 per cent of the faceoffs. Koepke, Comrie and Pearson were the three stars.&nbsp;The Jets jumped on a charter right after the game and flew to Edmonton for tonight’s game against the Oilers (9 p.m. CST on Sportsnet and CBC). Winnipeg will then return home to face the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Comrie, Koepke, Connor Outstanding As Jets Get Revenge on the Visiting Sabres

<h2>Jets can't score, drop second straight game</h2>All streaks are meant to end. The Winnipeg Jets’ nine-game winning streak against the Minnesota Wild ended with a thud on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;The red-hot Wild came to town on Sunday and shut out the Jets 3-0 as Winnipeg couldn’t solve the mystery of Minnesota goaltender Jesper Wallstedt. Meanwhile, the Wild had no trouble beating Jets goalie Eric Comrie by shooting the puck high and often to the short side.&nbsp;It was the third time this season the Jets have been shut out – twice on home ice.&nbsp;Winnipeg has now lost two straight games, both at home, and will head out on a five-game road trip that could make or break the season. That’s right, it’s only November and the Jets could find themselves in big trouble if they don’t have a better trip this time. The six-game trip they took in early November resulted in a 2-4 record and dropped them from first to third in the Division. Losing two out of three on this homestand left the Jets at 12-9-0 and out of a playoff position for the first time in two years.&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/dsc08380.jpg">Mark Scheifele and the Jets couldn't beat Jesper Wallstedt (Photo by Scott Stroh)The Wild, meanwhile, now have points in eight straight games and 10 in their last 11.&nbsp;All in all, for Winnipeg, Sunday afternoon’s whitewashing was an ugly loss.Granted, it didn’t help that the Jets lost defenceman Neal Pionk to a lower body injury after his first shift. That left Winnipeg with five D-men for almost the entire game.&nbsp;On top of that, this isn’t the same team with Connor Hellebuyck out for four-to-six weeks.&nbsp;The Jets played a solid first period, outshot the Wild 9-7 and yet couldn’t find a way to beat Wild goalie Jesper Wallstedt. The period finished 0-0 and the fans appeared quite happy to head out for a beer.&nbsp;In the second period, the Jets were the better team and had the most chances, but the Wild took advantage of the two good ones they had.&nbsp;Minnesota’s Danila Yurov scored his third of the year to open the scoring at 8:23 of the second period as he took a pass from Yakov Trenin and beat Eric Comrie to the short side. The Wild’s Marcus Johansson picked up a loose puck in his own zone skated into Jets territory and fed a perfect pass onto the stick of Brock Faber who beat Comrie bar-down. Comrie didn’t have a chance on the shot that went up over his shoulder and off the roof of the cage. It was a true goalscorer’s goal and it put a wrap on the proceedings.&nbsp;Winnipeg outshot Minnesota 32-29 and won 57.1 percent of the faceoffs. The Jets had plenty of scoring chances – they were zero-for-four on the power play -- but either they were gripping their sticks a little too tightly or Wallstedt was simply on top of the proceedings. <h2>Jets Fall 4-3 to Canes in ehlers' return</h2>RECAP:The Winnipeg Jets fell to 12-8-0 on the season with a 4-3 home loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night.A sellout crowd of 15,225 took in the return of Nikolaj Ehlers, who signed a big contract in Raleigh this offseason after 10 years in Manitoba. He picked up the primary assist on the Hurricanes' game-winning, power play goal, as he set up Andrei Svechnikov for a cross-ice one-timer to give Carolina a 4-2 lead.Winnipeg responded back with Gabe Vilardi's second goal of the game, but ultimately came up short with Eric Comrie on the bench and running a six-on-four man advantage as time ticked down. Josh Morrissey had the other goal for Winnipeg, to which he extended his defensive point scoring streak to a franchise record-tying seven games (Dustin Byfuglien), and is now up to 11 points in his last seven outings. Comrie managed 24 saves on the 28 pucks fired his way, and will need to be better as he will get the bulk of the work going forward, with Connor Hellebuyck on the shelf after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery for a minor ailment that will sideline the reigning Hart and back-to-back Vezina Trophy winner four-to-six weeks.Next up is the final test of the three-game homestand, as the Minnesota Wild roll into town on Sunday afternoon. <h2>Lowry, Morrissey, Scheifele, Comrie Lead Jets past jackets</h2>You could say it was surgical.&nbsp;Captain Adam Lowry scored his first goal of the season, leading scorer Mark Scheifele had three assists, Eric Comrie picked up his fourth win and the Winnipeg Jets won every statistical category that mattered as they pounded the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 on Tuesday night.&nbsp;It was Filipino Heritage Night at Canada Life Centre and the crowd was treated to one of the best performances by the Jets this season. In fact, there was absolutely nothing to criticize. The Jets simply did everything well and were rewarded with a convincing victory.&nbsp;“It’s nice, since I’ve been back, to get the first one at home,” said Lowry. “Offensively we were better tonight, but for us it starts in our end and the defence did a great job.”&nbsp;The Jets opened the scoring at 7:35 of the first period when Lowry took a slick pass from Nino Niederreiter and drilled a shot past Blue Jackets’ netminder Elvis Merzlikins from just outside the crease. It was Lowry’s first of the year in just his seventh game of the season since returning from hop surgery. Niederreiter and Neal Pionk picked up the assists.&nbsp;Columbus tied it at 18:27 of the opening frame when Brandon-born Damon Severson flipped the puck out of his own zone and Miles Wood outskated Dylan DeMelo for the puck, went in alone on Comrie and beat the Jets goaltender through the five-hole. Goalie Merzlikins picked up the other assist, his first point of the season and the sixth point of his seven-year NHL career.&nbsp;The teams went to the intermission tied at one. Both teams had 11 shots on goal.&nbsp;In the second period, Winnipeg took the lead at 1:12 as Mark Scheifele was sent away by Kyle Connor, streaked down the right wing and fired a hard pass across the Columbus crease right onto the stick of Josh Morrissey who tapped it into the wide-open net. It was Morrissey’s fourth goal of the season while Scheifele picked up his 14th assist while Connor garnered his 13th.&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/1h0a0904go.jpg">Morrissey scores (Photo by Scott Stroh)The Jets went ahead 3-1 on the power play at 15:30 of the second period as Neal Pionk took a pass from Gustav Nyquist and fired a laser from 35-feet out that Merzlikins did not see. It was Pionk’s first of the season as Nyquist and Niederreiter picked up the helpers.&nbsp;The Jets outshot Columbus 8-4 in the second period (19-15 overall) and were much the better team in what was a rather pedestrian 20 minutes of hockey.&nbsp;However, in the third period, the action got hot and heavy early.&nbsp;Winnipeg made it 4-1 at 2:45 when Scheifele fed a pass to Connor at the Columbus blueline and Connor went wide on Blue Jackets defenceman Dante Fabbro. Almost at the goal-line and at an odd angle, Connor ripped a high-shot off the mask of Merzlikins and under the bar on the short side. It was Connor’s 11th of the year as Scheifele picked up his 15th assist of the year and Morrissey recorded his 17th.&nbsp;Columbus made it 4-2 on a goal by Zach Werenski at 4:04 and then Logan Stanley restored the three-goal Jets’ lead with a blistering slapshot high to the glove side of the Jackets’ netminder at 6:23. Scheifele picked up his third assist of the night while Luke Shenn was credited with his second assist and second point of the season.&nbsp;From that point on, the Jets played shut-down D, won most of the battles in the dirty parts of the rink and let Comrie pick up his fourth win in five starts this season. Winnipeg outshot Columbus 30-22 (11-7 in the third), outhit the Jackets 14-12 and won 56.5 percent of the faceoffs.&nbsp;The 12-7-0 Jets play again on Friday night as Seth Jarvis and the Carolina Hurricanes come to town for a 7 p.m. start.

Jets Play a Near Perfect Game, Pounding the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 

<h2>Lambert scores his first NHL Goal as the Jets beat the penguins 5-2</h2>For the Winnipeg Jets, it was another near-masterpiece.&nbsp;Gabriel Vilardi scored just 15 seconds into the game, Brad Lambert scored his first NHL goal and Kyle Connor had the first penalty-shot goal of his career as the Jets started early and never let their collective foot off the proverbial gas.&nbsp;As a result, the Jets whipped the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Canada Life Centre as Kyle Connor scored twice and Eric Comrie won his second straight start.&nbsp;With the win, the Jets third in a row, Winnipeg moved into first place in the Western Conference with a 9-3-0 record. Vilardi finished with a goal and an assist while Mark Scheifele added a pair of assists as the Jets big line contributed six points to the victory.&nbsp;It was another impressive victory for the Jets who were a tad shaky last week at home, losing two-of-three. But after beating the Minnesota Wild 4-3 in overtime in St. Paul to start the week, the Jets demolished the Chicago Blackhawks 6-3 on Thursday night at home and were just as good on Saturday against a Pittsburgh team that was red-hot and is still in first place in the East.&nbsp;Meanwhile, Comrie had another great outing, allowing Connor Hellebuyck a bit of a rest before the Jets upcoming six-game road trip. The backup is now 2-0-0 on the season with a 2.33 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. &nbsp;&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/dsc09137.jpg">Eric Comrie“All three of Comrie’s games have been really, really good,” said Jets head coach Scott Arniel. “He’s going to play a lot more games this season and it’s good to see him playing the way he has.”&nbsp;Vilardi got it all started as the Jets rushed into the Pittsburgh zone to start the game. After Scheifele had a chance to score, Vilardi picked up the puck behind the Penguins net and banked it off goaltender Arturs Silovs skate for his fifth of the season. Josh Morrissey and Scheifele each picked up an assist, their 10th assists each this season.&nbsp;At 2:43, the Jets made it 2-0 as Brad Lambert took a pass from Parker Ford on the Pittsburgh doorstep and made no mistake to record his first NHL goal. Ford and Cole Koepke picked up the assists as the Jets took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.&nbsp;“Obviously I’ve been dreaming about that moment, back to when I was playing road hockey as a kid,” Lambert said, when asked about his first NHL goal. “It’s pretty special.”<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/brad-lambert's-first-nhl-goal.jpg">&nbsp;Lambert's First NHL GoalAt 1:17 of the second period, Vladislav Namestnikov scored his sixth of the campaign as he tipped home a perfect crossing pass from Jonathan Toews. Alex Iafallo also earned an assist while Toews picked up his fifth helper of the young season.&nbsp;Winnipeg made it 4-0 at 12:13 of the period on a very strange play. Silovs lost the puck behind his own net, Connor picked it up and just as he was going to deposit the puck into the empty net. Silovs threw his stick at the puck and knocked it across the crease and out of harms’ way. That resulted in a penalty shot and Connor made no mistake, deking Silovs out if position and flipping the puck over the sprawling goaltender and into the back of the net. It was Connor’s seventh goal of the year, and the first penalty shot goal of his career.&nbsp;“I kind of didn’t know what was going on,” said Connor, admitting it was the first time a goaltender had ever thrown a stick at him. “Missing an open net was going through my mind. I actually didn’t know the rule. They were discussing whether it was a goal or a penalty and I didn’t really expect a penalty shot. It’s nice to get another shot at it with the penalty shot.”&nbsp;Pittsburgh got back into it with 11 seconds to go in the period as Sidney Crosby scored his ninth of the year to make it 4-1 and then, at the 10:27 mark of the third, Blake Lizotte banged home a loose puck in the Jets crease to make it interesting at 4-2 as The Pas’ Connor Dewar picked up an assist.&nbsp;However, at 18:39, with Pittsburgh’s net empty, Scheifele got the puck to Vilardi who put it on Connor’s stick and the Jets veteran fired it from centre ice into the gaping cage to make it 5-2. Connor’s eighth of the year put the cork in the bottle as the Jets recorded their ninth win in 12 outings.&nbsp;Winnipeg outshot Pittsburgh 34-30 and outhit the visitors 29-18. Pittsburgh 54.2 per cent of the faceoffs. The Penguins went one-for-two on the power play while the Jets were zero-for-three.&nbsp;The Jets, who are 4-0-0 away from home this season, will now head out on a six-game road trip that starts Tuesday night in Los Angeles. <h2>Jets dismantle blackhawks in toews' first game vs. Chicago</h2>RECAP:The Winnipeg Jets have moved to 8-3-0 with a dominant 6-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday evening.The game was the first of two home contests before the Jets hit the road for a season-high six-game stretch through the wild west. Mark Scheifele, Gabe Vilardi and Kyle Connor each put up three points on the night, highlighted by Vilardi's two-goal outing. Winnipeg lost winger Gustav Nyquist midway through the first period on a battle play head coach Scott Arniel said "tweaked something" on his first-year Jet forward.Connor Hellebuyck made 21 stops on the 24 pucks sent his way, while Chicago's Spencer Knight did not look good, as he allowed six goals on 33 shots on net. The game marked the first of Jonathan Toews' career against the Blackhawks - the team he captained from 2008-23. He wasn't involved much in the offence, but did muster up one assist on Josh Morrissey's first goal of the season. Next up is a test with Sidney Crosby and the red-hot Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday afternoon. Puck drop is set for 2:00 PM central time.
