On Tuesday night, Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane was sliced across his left wrist during the second period of Edmonton's 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lighting.
The cut did not come in a malicious fashion, as Kane - who was lying on the ice - had his arm run into by the skate blade of Bolts forward Patrick Maroon. Once Maroon noticed what had happened, he immediately started shouting for attention from both teams' medical staffs.

“It's scary, certainly scary,” Oilers captain Connor McDavid said post-game. “I think you could feel the energy in the entire rink kind of just get sucked out. We're thinking about him. We're hearing he's doing OK, but that's obviously initial.”
Kane went racing off the ice clutching his left arm, whilst leaving a trail of blood behind him. He was immediately attended to by medical staff, paramedics and doctors before being taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery to repair the laceration.
"When an accident like that happens on the ice, that's where our first thought is. It's never fun to see one of your teammates in that kind of position," Edmonton head coach Jay Woodcroft said. "Shoutout to the great medical staff we have within our organization and the people here at the arena who were quick to respond and make sure that he was okay... The news that I’ve received so far, it’s very limited, is that he’s in a good spot. He’s getting well taken care of.”
Kane has been placed on the Oilers' long-term injured reserve. He is expected to miss three-to-four months.
On Wednesday morning, Kane released the following statement on social media relating to his current condition:
"Thank you all for the kind wishes and prayers from over the past several hours.
Obviously last night was an extremely scary moment for me and I'm still in a little bit of shock. I would like to thank the entire training staff of the Edmonton Oilers and Tampa Bay Lighting, along with all the doctors and paramedics who rushed to help treat and repair my injury. Without all of you I know things would've been much worse and I'm sincerely grateful.
I won't be back next game, but I will be back and I look forward to being back on the ice playing the game I love alongside my teammates in front of our great fans."
