WHL announces year-end all-star representatives
The Western Hockey League has selected its top players of the year, as identified by league general managers at the end of March.
Six players from each of the four divisions were selected as first-team all-stars, while another six players were chosen as second-team all-stars. Meaning, one goaltender, two defencemen and three forwards from each division were selected as first-team all-stars, while another goaltender, two defencemen and three forwards were picked from each division as second-team all-stars - or 12 total players per division.
And leading the charge is eight Manitobans. Of the 48 players selected, one sixth hail from the middle province.
Winnipeg's Hudson Thornton and Conner Roulette are the lone players selected from Manitoba's capital, while the remaining six players are from smaller cities or rural communities within the province.
Those players include Owen Pickering (St. Adolphe), Conor Geekie (Strathclair), Denton Mateychuk (Dominion City), Reid Dyck (Winkler), Caron Bjarnason (Carberry) and Sloan Stanick (Rapid City).
