Arizona Coyotes minority owner and alternate owner Andrew Barroway has been suspended by the National Hockey League following his arrest on Thursday morning at the Limelight Hotel in Aspen, Colorado on various domestic violence and misdemeanour charges.
The 57-year-old Scottsdale, Arizona product was charged with felony/assault after allegedly strangling his wife, and spent Thursday night at the Pitkin County Jail.
Following his hearing, Barroway was released on a $2.5K bond on Friday. He is prohibited from consuming alcohol and other substances, while able to travel with/without the Coyotes. His wife is filing for a full protection order, although they are able to meet to exchange control of the children, as long as a third-party is involved.
Barroway and his wife already reside in different homes.
"The National Hockey League is aware of the arrest of Arizona Coyotes' minority owner Andrew Barroway," the league shared in a statement. "Pending further information, he has been suspended indefinitely."
According to the affidavit and police report, Barroway and his wife had a number of audible disagreements and run-ins over the course of Wednesday evening. The smashing of a bottle and loud arguing at dinner kicked the wheels into motion.
The argument transitioned back to the Limelight Hotel as they made their way to their room following dinner.
After the hotel manager attempted to calm both parties down with knocks at their door, a third instance of loud yelling required a call to the local police.
Police intervened and reported that the female in question was bleeding from her hand, neck and throat, while bruising on her legs, ankles, neck and hands were indicative of strangulation suffered.
According to the police report, the couple's argument stemmed from money, child support and visitation arrangements due to an already arranged prenup.
At the bond hearing, Barroway requested that his parole orders be changed to allow his consumption of alcohol, "as long as it is not in excess". That request was denied by the presiding judge.
Barroway will be due back in court on April 3, to which he will attend virtually.
