Cayden Primeau stopped 24 shots to lead the Laval Rocket to a 4-1 victory over the Manitoba Moose at Place Bell in Laval on Friday night.

It was a bit of payback for Manitoba's 5-4 upset win on Wednesday. With the loss, the Moose fell to 24-32-0-0 on the season.

Kristian Reichel scored Manitoba's only goal. C.J. Seuss picked up his 10th assist of the season. Eric Comrie stopped 22 shots in the Moose net.

The Moose go at it again on Saturday night at 6 p.m. in Belleville. the Moose-Senators matchup will be broadcast live on TSN 1290.

They couldn’t score on a soccer net.&nbsp;Vladislav Namestnikov hasn’t had a goal since Nov. 1. He is the team’s No. 2 centre, and he has one point in 27 games and that point, an assist, came on Nov. 29.&nbsp;Nino Niederreiter, hasn’t had a point in 16 games. Jonathan Toews hasn’t had a goal since Nov. 11. Cole Perfetti hasn’t had a goal since Nov. 29 and has two goals in 26 games. Gustav Nyquist doesn’t have a goal in 30 games this season.&nbsp;It’s obviously time for a change. This experiment with geriatric hockey should be put down immediately.&nbsp;And let’s be honest, I can’t say the Moose kids are any better or will be any better. I look at their AHL numbers and I have no delusions. But this season is DONE! It's Time to Bring Up the Kids

<h2>Canada's brain trust missed on more than just scheifele</h2>I waited a few days to write this.&nbsp;Like most hockey people, especially those who follow the Winnipeg Jets, I wanted to give Hockey Canada’s snub of Mark Scheifele a good deal of thought.&nbsp;This week, of course, we watched as the likes of Anthony Cirelli, Bo Horvat, Mitch Marner, Tom Wilson and Mark Stone were named to the team, while players such as Morgan Geekie, Seth Jarvis, Connor Bedard and Scheifele were kicked to the curb.&nbsp;My immediate response to the players selected was this: At the Olympic level, I guess Hockey Canada believes it can be just like the Winnipeg Jets – a one line team.&nbsp;If, as everyone suspects, head coach Jon Cooper will throw Macklin Celebrini, Sidney Crosby and Nathan McKinnon on the No. 1 line, and Connor McDavid will center the second line, that means a handful of checking forwards with reasonable scoring ability will make up the final three lines. If Canada intends to win every game 2-1, this will be an excellent team.&nbsp;However, after the big line, there is McDavid and then few legitimate scorers.&nbsp;Let’s look at Scheifele, for instance. There are only two players on this team with more points – McDavid and McKinnon – this season. He’s been brilliant and for those who suggest he’s a defensive liability, well, he’s a plus-seven on a team that didn’t have its MVP goaltender for five weeks. Dumping Scheifele for a slug like Cirelli, who has 11 goals and 24 points (135th in the NHL) and didn’t score a single point in last year’s Four Nations Cup, is just stupid.&nbsp;He also shows up every night. Mark Stone has played 22 games this season. In fact, Stone has never played a full season in his career. Scheifele has played 13 seasons in the NHL, Stone 16. Scheifele has played in almost 200 more NHL games than Stone during that time. Durability is important in a short tournament. Scheifele is considerably more durable.&nbsp;And how about commitment to the Hockey Canada program? Scheifele has always answered the bell. He played for Canada in 2010 (World U18), 2012 (World U20), 2013 (World U20), 2014, 2016 and 2017 (World Championships). So, how about Tom Wilson? He played in the World U17s for Team Ontario is 2011 and hasn’t represented Canada since. So much for the “if you commit to Team Canada, Team Canada will commit to you.” That’s now meaningless and, actually, pathetic.&nbsp;I could go on for hours about the Scheifele snub. It’s just horrible. Hockey Canada should be ashamed, but they’ve had more serious things to be ashamed about recently, so I often wonder if they feel any shame at all. And, on the bright side, with a good rest in February, Scheifele might just help the Jets salvage a very difficult season.&nbsp;However, this fiasco didn’t stop at Scheifele. Morgan Geekie is second in the NHL in goal scoring and has been the Boston Bruins biggest goal scorer over the past three seasons. He also played for Canada at the World Championships in 2022. Geekie provides more offence than half of the players selected.&nbsp;Connor Bedard and Seth Jarvis are two others who would add speed, skill and scoring ability to a team that probably won’t score many goals.&nbsp;Sadly, Team Canada general manager Doug Armstrong said, “I don’t see a position on this roster where Bedard would succeed.”&nbsp;First of all, that’s preposterous. Second of all, if there isn’t a place where Bedard would succeed I can tell Armstrong, without hesitation, that there is absolutely no place where Cirelli, Wilson, Hagel, Horvat or Marner will succeed. Armstrong is essentially admitting that his team isn’t very good and Bedard won’t get any help from his grinding linemates.&nbsp;“I don't think the rest of the league knows how good of a two-way winning hockey player Connor has become,” said Chicago Blackhawks head coach Doug Blashill, who&nbsp;was hired&nbsp;in May. “That's the one thing probably, and I don't know why. Maybe it's based on previous years. But I don't think they have a full understanding of how good a winning hockey player he is today.”While Blashill was defending Bedard, Scheifele defended himself this week."Yeah, it sucked. Pretty dark day," Scheifele told reporters in Toronto after he scored two goals and dished our an assist in a 6-5 loss to the Leafs on Thursday night.&nbsp;"It's hard to think about now after kind of turning the page (Thursday) morning. Obviously, Wednesday was a tough day. News you don't want. But it just shows the amount of talent in Canada, so many great hockey players, so many great guys.”Scheifele is a leader. That statement, praising the Canadian players, showed a lot of class.“I don't know what else I could have done (to make Team Canada),” Scheifele added. “I'm proud of the way I've played all season. I think I've probably played the best hockey I've ever played in my career.”The Jets have been lousy this season, but the line of Scheifele, Kyle Connor and Gabriel Vilardi (who, himself, would have been a better choice than a couple of the players who did make Team Canada) have been brilliant.Doug Armstrong and Hockey Canada appear to have built a team that would be remarkably successful over an 82-game NHL slog. In a short, fast, tournament against European and U.S. speed, this team has some serious holes.Then again, if they can win four 2-1 games, Team Canada will be just fine.

Days Later, the Scheifele Olympic Snub is Still Confusing 

<h2>Mcdavid, draisaitl do nothing but jets can't score</h2>The Winnipeg Jets still can’t score and as a result, they still can’t win.&nbsp;Monday night in front of a full-house at Canada Life Centre, the Jets outshot the visiting Edmonton Oilers 42-21 and lost 3-1.&nbsp;Winnipeg controlled every aspect of the game except the scoreboard. The puck was in Edmonton’s end most of the night, the Jets peppered Oilers goalie Calvin Pickard – a St. Paul’s Collegiate grad – with shot after shot and yet they simply couldn’t score.&nbsp;With the loss, their second straight at home and sixth in a row (three in overtime), the Jets fell to 15-18-4 and the playoffs now appear to be little more than a pipe-dream.&nbsp;On Monday, the first period was scoreless but should not have been. &nbsp;The Jets dominated and outshot the Oilers 15-9. However, this franchise that has spent so many millions of dollars on goal scorers just can’t score. They made Winnipeg netminder Calvin Pickard look like Georges Vezina himself.&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/pickard-sprawls-to-make-another-save.jpg">Pickard sprawls to make another save (Photo by Danny Truong)The most interesting moment was a rather drawn-out fight between two welterweights, Neal Pionk and Nugent-Hopkins. It was the fifth fight of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ 14-year NHL career.&nbsp;In the second period, the Oilers opened the scoring at the eight-minute mark when Jets defenceman Logan Stanley laid a perfect pass onto the stick of Edmonton’s Max Jones, who just happened to be standing alongside the Jets crease. Jones tucked it behind Connor Hellebuyck for his first goal of the season.&nbsp;At that point, the Jets had outshot Edmonton 19-10, but this season, Winnipeg couldn’t score on a soccer net.&nbsp;The Oilers made it 2-0 on the power play at 12:49 as former Jets’ first-round draft pick Jack Roslovic ripped a rebound for his 11th of the season. Roslovic is a player nobody in the NHL wanted, so the Oilers signed him for $1 million just after the start of the season. He has 11 goals and 19 points in just 26 games, and he’d be the Jets fifth-leading scorer today.&nbsp;Regardless, at that point, it was over. The Jets had half-a-dozen Grade A opportunities before the end of the period and either Pickard got in the way or they shot wide. Winnipeg outshot Edmonton 11-4 (the Oilers scored twice on four shots) in the second period and had outshot the Oilers 26-13 after 40 minutes, but simply could not score.&nbsp;The Jets made a game out of it at 5:46 of the third period when captain Adam Lowry banged a rebound between Pickard’s legs to make it 2-1. It was Lowry’s second goal of the season – that’s two goals in 25 games -- his first point in 11 games and his first goal since Nov. 18.&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/lowry.jpg">Adam Lowry (Photo by Danny Truong)That, sadly, was as close as the Jets would get. Despite completely controlling the game, the Jets couldn’t beat Pickard and Zach Hyman scored an empty-netter at 18:37 to put a lock on it.&nbsp;The Jets outshot Edmonton 15-8 in the third period and 42-21 overall and could not win.&nbsp;Perhaps it’s time the Jets brass considered a major trade, a few outright releases or just a move to the best talent on the Manitoba Moose because this dependence on old, slow forwards just isn’t working.&nbsp;The Jets play again Wednesday night in Detroit. The game against the Red Wings begins at 5:30 p.m. CST.

Former Winnipegger Calvin Pickard shuts down the Jets as Edmonton Escapes with 3-1 Win

<h2>THis was a Game the Jets should have won</h2>The Winnipeg Jets were 22 seconds away from perhaps turning around this disappointing season.&nbsp;But a power play goal by Mats Zuccarello at 19:38 of the third period sent a game the Jets should have won in regulation time into OT.&nbsp;And just 39 seconds into the overtime, Matt Boldy ripped a shot from between the circles past Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck and the Minnesota Wild stole a 4-3 victory -- and just might have buried the Jets 2025-26 season.&nbsp;With the loss, the Jets fell to 15-17-4 and are now five points away from the final Wild Card spot in the West. However, this was a loss that stung. The Jets played well, they were the better team all night and yet, as it has gone far too often this season, they were on the losing side of a tight game.&nbsp;Even though the No. 1 line was outstanding once again – Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele each had a goal and an assist and Gabriel Vilardi had two assists -- the Jets once again got nothing much from the other three lines.<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/connor-1.jpg">Kyle Connor was congratulated by the fans for scoring his 30th career goal (Photo by Rusty Barton)&nbsp;And when you consider Minnesota had two power plays in the final six minutes and the Jets had two goals disallowed – one that would have made the score 4-2 Winnipeg with 22 seconds remaining – it’s easy to come to the conclusion that this just isn’t Winnipeg’s year.&nbsp;The Jets should have taken a 1-0 lead at 9:23 of the opening period when Gustav Nyquist went coast to coast and beat Minnesota netminder Jesper Wallstedt on the short side. But when Nyquist undressed Quinn Hughes at the Wild blueline, Nino Neiderreiter was offside. The goal was disallowed.&nbsp;The Jets finally scored the first goal at 11:36 of when Kyle Connor fed Josh Morrissey, who skated into the slot and unleashed a lazer under the bar that Wallstedt didn’t see until it came back out of the net. It was Morrissey’s sixth goal of the season as Connor and Gabriel Vilardi drew the assists.&nbsp;Shortly after the Jets scored, Logan Stanley and Jake Middleton played some old-time hockey. Stanley landed plenty of punches early, Middleton came back and the fight ended when Stanley fell on top of the big Wild defenceman. Both sat for five.&nbsp;But Minnesota tied it at 18:29 when the Jets’ hopelessly slow second line couldn’t get the puck out of its own end and eventually a seemingly meaningless shot from the side boards by Kiril Kaprisov was tipped by Matt Boldy and past Connor Hellebuyck.&nbsp;The Jets completely dominated the first period, outshot Minnesota 10-4, had three or four glorious scoring opportunities, won 63 per cent of the faceoffs and yet left the ice for the first intermission deadlocked at one.&nbsp;In the second period, the Wild took a 2-1 lead at 7:33 when Kaprisov walked around Dylan DeMelo, went in alone on Hellebuyck and beat the Jets netminder with a nifty move to the backhand. It was Kaprisov’s 21st of the season.&nbsp;The Jets battled back and tied the game at 17:40 when Mark Scheifele stole a Minnesota pass in the Jets zone, got the puck up to Vilardi who dragged the puck and a Wild defenceman behind the Minnesota net. Vilardi dished the puck back to Scheifele who fed a wide-open Kyle Connor in front and Connor made no mistake. He ripped it past Wallstedt for his 18th of the season. Vilardi (17) and Scheifele (27) earned the assists.&nbsp;Then came a bit of a miracle. With five second left in the period, Jonathan Toews won a faceoff in the Minnesota zone. The puck wound up on Scheifele’s stick and the Jets leading scorer skated to the front of the net and fired a shot past Wallstedt with just two seconds remaining in the period. It was Scheifele’s 18th goal of the season and Toews seventh assist. It also sent the teams into the second intermission with Winnipeg on top 3-2.&nbsp;The Jets were the better team once again, outshooting the Wild 9-6. Interestingly, after two periods, the Jets had outshot Minnesota 19-11 and had also hit an unbelievable five posts behind Wallstedt.&nbsp;In the third period, referees Pierre Lambert and Peter MacDougall must have been working their <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="http://bet365.com">bet365.com</a> betting apps because they did everything humanly possible to give Minnesota the game. And they ultimately succeeded.&nbsp;They called a penalty for slashing on Logan Stanley at 13:36 even though Stanley barely made contact with Vinnie Hinostroza who yelled at the official and convinced him to raise his arm.&nbsp;The Jets fought off that penalty, but they couldn’t fight off the next one. With 30 seconds remaining and the puck in the Minnesota zone, Dylan DeMelo was called for cross-checking behind the play. The official blew his whistle when Connor stole the puck from Quinn Hughes and scored an empty net goal. The goal was disallowed and the Jets were left a man short.&nbsp;With six attackers to four, Mats Zuccarello scored just eight seconds into the power play. That set up overtime and Boldy scored the winner just 39 seconds into extra time.&nbsp;The Jets outshot Minnesota 26-19 on the night, but stats didn’t matter in this one. Penalties were all that mattered and the Wild’s big power play goal with 22 seconds remaining was perhaps, the end of the line for the Jets season.&nbsp;Winnipeg plays again on Monday night at Canada Life Centre. The Edmonton Oilers come to town for a 7 p.m. start. Every game is a must-win for the Jets now.&nbsp;

Jets Snatch Defeat from the Hands of Victory, Falling 4-3 to Minnesota

<h2>WITH 3-2 OT LOSS Jets fall to 1-3-1 in last five games</h2>Just when you think you have it in the bag…&nbsp;Monday night at Canada Life Centre, the Winnipeg Jets held a 2-1 advantage over the Ottawa Senators with 1:54 left to play in the third period.That’s when Jake Sanderson scored to tie the game at two and then Brady Tkachuk won it at 2:11 of overtime as the Senators knocked off the Jets 3-2 in front of 13,566 at the downtown rink.It was an unfortunate loss for the Jets who started slowly, got hot for the final two periods but let it slip away at the end. Once again, a team that has spent multi-millions of dollars on goal scorers, didn’t get enough scoring.“That’s a game we should have won,” said Jets coach Scott Arniel. “At the end of the day, these are the games you've got to learn to win. We have to find a way, whatever way that is. If that's making the next play so that it gets out of the zone, if that's blocking a shot, whatever it is, those are the things we need to do. We need two points, not one point. We need points bad."The OT loss dropped the Jets to 15-15-2 on the season, three points out of the final Wild Card spot in the West. The Senators’ victory pushed Ottawa to 15-3-4, four points back of Boston for the final Wild Card berth in the East.The best player on the ice was Ottawa’s Tim Stutzle who, of course, set up Tkachuk with the overtime winner, a wrist shot from the right circle that went over Connor Hellebuyck’s glove.After a scoreless first period, Ottawa opened the scoring at 10:47 of the second on a goal by Nick Cousins, but the Jets bounced back later in the period as Neal Pionk scored from Kyle Connor and Cole Perfetti at 15:37 to tie it. Connor’s assist extended his point streak to nine games. Mistakes are going to happen in a game, and two of them ended up in the back of our net. That’s been a theme for us, but this was a game that I think we should have won.”Stanley’s goal gave the Jets a 2-1 lead that held up until Stutzle set up Sanderson on a two-on-one with just 1:06 left to play in regulation.The Senators outshot the Jets 31-25 (4-1 in overtime), but Ottawa had outshot the Jets 17-9 by the time they scored the first goal of the game. Winnipeg played well enough to win down the stretch, but simply couldn’t hold the fort.Linus Ullmark made 23 saves to record the win while Hellebuyck made 28 stops and took the loss. <h2>Jets pound capitals as hellebuyck returns to the net</h2>RECAP:The Winnipeg Jets are back in business.On Saturday, fans gathered at Canada Life Centre were treated to one of the first 'complete' Jets games of the season, from start to finish.Scoring five goals - two in the first period, another two in the second and one more in the third - Winnipeg picked up a 5-1 win over Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals, improving to an even 15-15-1 on the season.Part of that revitalization? The return of Connor Hellebuyck after a three-week, 11-game (2-8-1) absence, and game No. 1,000 for Nino Niederreiter.Both players performed well, with Hellebuyck taking the cake. <h2>Jets fall again</h2>RECAP:The Winnipeg Jets have lost another game, this time 6-3 to the Boston Bruins.Giving up six goals usually doesn't result in a win. And on Thursday night, that mantra proved true once again. Giving up three goals in 2:44 in the first period was certainly not in the game plan for head coach Scott Arniel. But yes, it did happen.The Jets did manage to battle back, coming to within one goal of the Bruins two times after falling behind 3-1 early, but they just could not get over the hump. Strathclair, Manitoba's Morgan Geekie (who is second in the league with 22 goals scored) picked up two assists on the night while playing on Boston's top line and power play unit.Morgan Barron, Alex Iafallo and Gabe Vilardi scored for Winnipeg, which dropped to 2-8-1 in its last 11 games since Connor Hellebuyck went down with a knee injury. The Jets are clearly missing their star goaltender, who is drawing near to a return following his arthroscopic knee surgery. That return could not come soon enough. Eric Comrie's play between the pipes in his absence has left a lot to be desired. But Winnipeg's offence has also not been firing on all cylinders. Another big test will take place on Saturday evening, as Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals roll into town for the third set of the four-game homestand. <h2>JETS OUTSHOOT anD OUTHIT DALLAS BUT DON'T OUTSCORE THEM</h2>The Winnipeg Jets outplayed the NHL’s second-best team on Tuesday night.&nbsp;They outshot the Dallas Stars, outhit the Dallas Stars and were clearly the better team. Trouble is, they didn’t outscore the Dallas Stars.&nbsp;Jason Roberston scored what turned out to be the winning goal midway through the third period on Tuesday and despite a brilliant two-goal performance from Mark Scheifele, the Jets fell 4-3 to a team they just can’t seem to find a way to beat.&nbsp;With the loss, the Jets fell to 14-14-1 – 2-7-1 since MVP and Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Connor Hellebuyck left the team to undergo arthroscopic surgery on a chronically injured knee.&nbsp;The Jets have also lost two in a row and are watching the wild card spots in the West fade with every defeat.&nbsp;It was a tough loss on Tuesday as the Jets played very well against one of the best teams in the NHL.&nbsp;The Stars opened the scoring when Esa Lindell beat Eric Comrie 44 seconds into the game on their very first shot. After that, the Jets dominated the period, outshooting Dallas 11-6 and completely controlling all three zones.&nbsp;However, the Jets missed a number of scoring chances and Casey DeSmith was rock-solid in the Stars’ net.&nbsp;In the second period, the Stars quickly made it 2-0 as Roope Hintz finished off a three-way passing play right in front of Comrie. It was the first shot of the second period and came at 1:16.<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/hintz-makes-it-2-0.jpg">Hintz makes it 2-0 Dallas (Photo by Scott Stroh)&nbsp;At 2:34, the Stars made it 3-0 when Alexander Petrovic ripped a shot from 40-feet out that eluded six players in front and Comrie.&nbsp;It looked like a Stars rout on the scoreboard, but it wasn’t that way on the ice. The Jets were all over Dallas, giving them very few scoring chances, but they had three goals on their first eight shots and that was the difference.&nbsp;The Jets finally got on the board when Mark Scheifele stole the puck in front of the Stars net, got it to Kyle Connor, who fed it back to Scheifele who buried it behind DeSmith. It was Scheifele’s 15th goal of the year and Connor’s 21st assist.&nbsp;Winnipeg got back into the argument at 18:58 when Scheifele took a beautiful pass from Josh Morrissey and roofed one past DeSmith. It was a gorgeous goal, his 16th of the year and second of the game. Morrissey and Connor drew the assists.&nbsp;Dallas led 3-2 after two periods, but they were just holding on. Winnipeg outshot the Stars 14-8 in the second period -- 25-14 after 40 minutes. The Jets had also outhit Dallas 26-6 and were again, dominating play."I think we liked a lot of our game tonight," Logan Stanley said. "I thought that we were the better team, and maybe deserved a little better, but that's kind of the funk we're in right now. We keep battling through it, and, you know, that's a good start and a good kind of game plan for us going forward, we want to play like that. I thought we did a lot of good things.&nbsp;However, just as the Jets were getting back in the game, Dallas got its fourth power play of the night and made good use of it. Jason Robertson scored his 19th of the year at 4:46 of the third period and suddenly the Jets were down 4-2.&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/logan-stanley-scores.jpg">Big Logan Stanley scores his fourth of the year (Photo by Scott Stroh)But the Jets didn’t quit. Big Logan Stanley banged home his own rebound at 5:54 to make it 4-3 as Stanley scored his fourth of the season. Cole Perfetti and Gabriel Vilardi picked up the assists.&nbsp;After that the Jets missed two glorious opportunities to score and kept pressing but the Stars picked up another power play at 11:01 and that sealed Winnipeg’s fate.&nbsp;The Jets fought off the penalty and pressured the Stars, but they just didn’t have the offensive fire-power to even the game. Despite getting one more power play, the Jets had nothing left in the tank.&nbsp;It was an incredible night in terms of ice-time for the Jets. Scheifele got 25 minutes and 47 seconds. Kyle Connor got 25:31. Only one defenceman – Josh Morrissey got more (26:33). Coach Scott Arniel did everything he could to keep Connor and Scheifele on the ice. They way things have gone this season, they are the only players (along with Gabriel Vilardi, who was moved onto a line with Perfetti and Jonathan Toews) who give any indication they can score.&nbsp;In the end, the Jets outshot Dallas 33-19 and outhit them 32-8, but with little secondary scoring and no Hellebuyck, they just don’t have the horses.&nbsp;The Jets play at home again on Thursday night when the Boston Bruins come to town. Game time at the downtown rink is 7 p.m.

<h2>COMRIE MAKES 34 Saves To Lead Jets to Big home win</h2>It’s been pretty cold in Winnipeg for the past week. And that was just perfect.&nbsp;They say revenge is best served cold and it was served ice cold on the Buffalo Sabres at Canada Life Centre on Friday night. Thanks to a goal and an assist from both Cole Koepke and Kyle Connor and a brilliant netminding performance by Eric Comrie, the Jets whipped the Sabres 4-1.&nbsp;Considering the Sabres beat the Jets 5-1 in Buffalo on Monday night, this one felt pretty good for the home side.&nbsp;With the win, the Jets improved to 14-12-1 and moved back into the final Wild Card spot in the West. More importantly, after going 1-3-1 on their recent five-game road trip, the Jets are back in the winner’s circle again.&nbsp;“It was important to come home and win this one in front of our fans,” said Koepke after the game. There was no doubt about that.&nbsp;Even though the Sabres dominated the first period, the Jets opened the scoring at 4:24, when Kyle Connor was left alone to the left of Sabres netminder Ukko-Pekka Lukkonen. Lukkonen stopped Connor’s first shot, but the Jets top goal scorer banged the rebound through the goalie’s five hole for his 15th tally of the season. Gabriel Vilardi, who made the pass that set-up Connor drew the primary assist, his 12th of the year, while Dylan Samberg was also credited with a helper.<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/jets-celly.jpg">&nbsp;Jets celebrate Kyle Connor's 15th of the Year (Scott Stroh Photo)Buffalo tied it on the power play at 14:44 as Jason Zucker took care of his own rebound to beat a sprawling Eric Comrie. It was Zucker’s ninth of the year.&nbsp;The Jets had one good scoring chance before the end of the period, but Lukkonen was equal to the task, and the teams went to their respective dressing rooms tied at one. Buffalo outshot Winnipeg 15-8 and completely outskated the home side. In fact, in the first period against this young Sabres team, the Jets looked two-steps too slow.&nbsp;However, Winnipeg went ahead 2-1 at 2:22 of the second period when Cole Koepke stole the puck from Buffalo’s Alex Tuch at the Winnipeg blueline and sent Tanner Pearson in alone on Lukkonen and he made no mistake, burying a wrist shot into the lower-left corner. Mark Scheifele set up Logan Stanley on the doorstep with a wide-open net and, somehow, Stanley found Lukkonen’s pad. Then Adam Lowry was awarded a penalty shot and he proceeded to wander in and push some kind of weak shot right at the Sabres netminder. No team, especially a team struggling to score like the Jets, can miss those gifts and expect to win.&nbsp;And yet, the Jets kept plugging away until the 18:42 mark of the third period when the fourth line struck again. This time Dylan DeMelo fired a stretch pass onto the stick of Morgan Barron who fed Cole Koepke streaking toward the Sabres net. Koepke made a Sidney Crosby move and broke both Lukkonens’s ankles as he tucked the puck into the corner of the goal.&nbsp;It was a goal-scorer’s goal – Koepke’s first as a member of the Jets – and it gave Winnipeg a 3-1 lead heading to the third even though the Jets had been outshot 26-17 (11-9 in the second period).&nbsp;The Jets seemed to make it 4-1 on a goal by Mark Scheifele with 6:36 left to play, but the Sabres protested saying Scheifele was offside earlier in the play. The video declared the indeed he was offside, so it remained 3-1.&nbsp;The Jets did make it 4-1 with an empty netter by Gabriel Vilardi at 19:26. However, right before the goal, Comrie made two outstanding saves and then as the Jets carried the puck into the Buffalo zone, Connor was hooked, slashed and hauled down from behind and neither referee put up his arm. There is something fishy going on in the NHL and the only explanation I have is that the officials make up the rules as they go along.&nbsp;Regardless, Vilardi took a pass from the falling Connor and drilled it into the empty net to put the game away. It was Vilardi’s 12th goal of the year while Connor picked up his 19th assist and Scheifele, who started the play, picked up his 21st assist of the season.<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/comrie.jpg">&nbsp;Eric Comrie had a huge game for the Jets (Scott Stroh Photo)Buffalo outshot Winnipeg 35-23 (9-6 in the third period) as Comrie had a superb game for the Jets. The Jets outhit Buffalo 33-22 and won 53.6 per cent of the faceoffs. Koepke, Comrie and Pearson were the three stars.&nbsp;The Jets jumped on a charter right after the game and flew to Edmonton for tonight’s game against the Oilers (9 p.m. CST on Sportsnet and CBC). Winnipeg will then return home to face the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

<h2>Jets can't score, drop second straight game</h2>All streaks are meant to end. The Winnipeg Jets’ nine-game winning streak against the Minnesota Wild ended with a thud on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;The red-hot Wild came to town on Sunday and shut out the Jets 3-0 as Winnipeg couldn’t solve the mystery of Minnesota goaltender Jesper Wallstedt. Meanwhile, the Wild had no trouble beating Jets goalie Eric Comrie by shooting the puck high and often to the short side.&nbsp;It was the third time this season the Jets have been shut out – twice on home ice.&nbsp;Winnipeg has now lost two straight games, both at home, and will head out on a five-game road trip that could make or break the season. That’s right, it’s only November and the Jets could find themselves in big trouble if they don’t have a better trip this time. The six-game trip they took in early November resulted in a 2-4 record and dropped them from first to third in the Division. Losing two out of three on this homestand left the Jets at 12-9-0 and out of a playoff position for the first time in two years.&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/dsc08380.jpg">Mark Scheifele and the Jets couldn't beat Jesper Wallstedt (Photo by Scott Stroh)The Wild, meanwhile, now have points in eight straight games and 10 in their last 11.&nbsp;All in all, for Winnipeg, Sunday afternoon’s whitewashing was an ugly loss.Granted, it didn’t help that the Jets lost defenceman Neal Pionk to a lower body injury after his first shift. That left Winnipeg with five D-men for almost the entire game.&nbsp;On top of that, this isn’t the same team with Connor Hellebuyck out for four-to-six weeks.&nbsp;The Jets played a solid first period, outshot the Wild 9-7 and yet couldn’t find a way to beat Wild goalie Jesper Wallstedt. The period finished 0-0 and the fans appeared quite happy to head out for a beer.&nbsp;In the second period, the Jets were the better team and had the most chances, but the Wild took advantage of the two good ones they had.&nbsp;Minnesota’s Danila Yurov scored his third of the year to open the scoring at 8:23 of the second period as he took a pass from Yakov Trenin and beat Eric Comrie to the short side. Winnipeg defenceman Logan Stanley lost the puck to Trenin behind the net and then was caught flat-footed as Yurov whipped it past Comrie.&nbsp;Minnesota put the game away at 18:12 of the second period with the Jets on the power play. The Wild’s Marcus Johansson picked up a loose puck in his own zone skated into Jets territory and fed a perfect pass onto the stick of Brock Faber who beat Comrie bar-down. It was a beautiful shot, giving Faber his fifth of the season, and giving the Wild a 2-0 lead against a team that was not only struggling to score, but didn’t seem to have a chance against Wallstedt.&nbsp;<img src="https://game-on-hockey.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/dsc05003.jpg">Jets captain Adam Lowry takes a shot at Minnesota's Marcus Foligno (Scott Stroh)In fact, Adam Lowry pounding on Marcus Foligno during a brief fight was the only bright spot for the Jets in the second period.&nbsp;At the 6:29 mark of the third period, the Wild made it 3-0 as Kiril Kaprisov scored his 13th of the year with a high shot to the short side. Comrie didn’t have a chance on the shot that went up over his shoulder and off the roof of the cage. It was a true goalscorer’s goal and it put a wrap on the proceedings.&nbsp;Winnipeg outshot Minnesota 32-29 and won 57.1 percent of the faceoffs. The Jets had plenty of scoring chances – they were zero-for-four on the power play -- but either they were gripping their sticks a little too tightly or Wallstedt was simply on top of the proceedings. The Minnesota goaltender was superb. &nbsp;&nbsp;The Jets play again on Wednesday night in Washington, D.C. Game time is 6 p.m. on Sportsnet West.
