Despite goals by Michael Spacek and JC Lipon, the Manitoba Moose lost their 30th game of the season on Thursday night.
Garrett Mitchell scored a pair of goals to lead the Rockford IceHogs to a 5-2 victory over the Moose who fell to 22-30-0-0 on the season.
Rockford built a 3-0 lead early in the second period and cruised to its 24th win of the American League campaign. Lipon scored his 12th of the year for Manitoba at 12:52 of the second frame, but Rockford scored twice in the third to build a 5-1 lead and that was it. In the final two minutes of the final period, Spacek's attempt found the top shelf, but that was just window dressing.
The Mloose outshot Rockford 35-21 but couldn't solve the mystery of either IceHogs goalie. Kevin Lankinen played the first period for Rockford and stopped all 16 shots he faced while Colin Delia played the final two periods and stopped 17 of 19 shots. Mikhail Berdin stopped 16 in the Manitoba net.
With an assist on Lipon's goal, Leon Gawanke picked up his 20th point for the Moose. He has a goal and 19 assists. Lipon and Gawanke each had five shots on goal.
The Moose play again on Saturday night when the Milwaukee Admirals come to town. Game time at Bell MTS place is 6 p.m.
