Jets beat red Wings 5-2 at home
RECAP:
The Winnipeg Jets have improved to 19-9-3 following a 5-2 win over the visiting Detroit Red Wings from Canada Life Centre on Wednesday night.
Gabriel Vilardi scored and added two assists, while Nikolaj Ehlers and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby each scored and registered an assist in the win.
Goaltender Laurent Brossoit outduelled Manitoban James Reimer in the Red Wings crease, as he stopped 26 of the 28 shots that came his way. Reimer made 30 saves on the 35 pucks he faced.
Winnipeg scored the game's opening goal late in the first period on Neal Pionk's second of the season, before the visitors tied things up in the early stages of the second.
The Jets then quickly potted three-straight goals pulling ahead 4-1 through 40 minutes.
Patrick Kane got one back for the Wings, but Mark Scheifele finished them off with just under five minutes to play.
Next up is the final game for Winnipeg before the team's holiday break. That test is a 7:00 PM central showdown with the Atlantic Division-leading Boston Bruins.

QUOTEABLE:
Nikolaj Ehlers on his kick-pass:
“I didn’t kick it, I just kind of stood on it and it went behind my other leg and I saw that Gabe was open. It wasn’t too bad.”
Have you done that a few other times?
“There were a lot of guys right around me and I didn’t feel like I could get my stick down there. I played soccer for a long time. It was fun to try it.”
Head coach Rick Bowness on his team's play:
“It was just an all-around really solid team effort. Our team game, I’ve talked enough about it, our team game has been really good. And you don’t have a team game unless you have everyone contributing and looking the same out there without the puck. All four lines tonight were going, the D were good. Listen, give LB a lot of credit, too. I talk a lot about timely goals. That fifth goal was timely. And a lot of timely saves from LB, so that was a good solid team effort.”
WHAT’S NEXT:
Next up for the Jets is the final test of three-straight games against Original Six opponents, as the Boston Bruins make their way to Canada Life Centre on Friday for the last game before the NHL's Christmas break. That game can be viewed live on TSN at 7:00 PM central.
